Grassic Gibbon Centre & Cafe

Grassic Gibbon Centre & Cafe The Grassic Gibbon Centre & Cafe sits in the Mearns countryside, the spiritual home of Lewis Grassic Gibbon. Next to the centre is a large playpark.

The Centre sits in the very heart of the beautiful Mearns countryside, the spiritual home of the Scots novelist Lewis Grassic Gibbon. It is only three miles from either the A90 Aberdeen to Dundee dual carriageway, or the A92 coast road. Follow the Grassic Gibbon Centre tourist signs on the A90 opposite the Fordoun junction, or from the A92 north of Inverbervie. The Grassic Gibbon Centre sits in th

e very heart of the beautiful Mearns countryside, the spiritual home of Lewis Grassic Gibbon. It celebrates the life, work and times of James Leslie Mitchell, the novelist of the Mearns, better known by his pen name Lewis Grassic Gibbon. Book and Gift Shop
In the Book and Gift Shop you will find all Lewis Grassic Gibbon's books which are currently in print including limited editions available exclusively from the Centre. There is also a selection of local crafts and gifts. Exhibition
In the Exhibition visitors can trace Gibbon's life through a selection of story boards, display cases and a video presentation. Rare and valuable books can be viewed many of which belonged to the author, as well as personal effects and photographs kindly donated and loaned by his family and friends. The Centre stands within two miles of the farm where Mitchell spent his boyhood and only yards from the parish school where his talent first flowered. When he died, his ashes were laid to rest in nearby Arbuthnott churchyard.
