Can you tell fact from fiction online?

Fake news, scams, and misinformation are everywhere — but you don’t have to face them alone.

Join us for an in-person talk on the topic of online safety from cyber security expert Dr Jana Vidis, and hear from Norman Stevenson, who will draw on his years of experience in the investigation unit of Police Scotland to share real-life cases of fraud and highlight common mistakes people make online.

Today is the first Meteorological Day of Summer which means it's the start of our Summer Reading Challenge. Head down to the library to sign up.

The first of June is also "Dinosaur Day", an annual celebration of all things Paleontology and prehistory.

Only one week to go until the Summer Reading Challenge begins!

Only one week to go until the Summer Reading Challenge begins!

It’s that time of year again — we’re getting ready for the Summer Reading Challenge!

Our theme this year is “Just Read!”, celebrating 2026 as the National Year of Reading.
It’s also especially fitting as we celebrate 25 years of the Summer Reading Challenge in Aberdeenshire Libraries.

Whether you love adventure, mystery, magic, or something totally new, this year is all about discovering the joy of reading in your own way.

It's Bookbug week this week!!!

Bookbug will be on as usual on Wednesday between 9.45 and 10.15 am at Mearns Community Library. Come for the songs and stay for the Big Bingo. Can you find Bookbug baby and friends hiding around the library?

Bookbug also needs help with a Big Quest. Can you find all the different story characters hidden in the poster? And how many of them have you read about in a book?

Feeling like a spot of escapism, be like Jack and plant a Beanstalk (giants and golden harps not guaranteed)!

Mearns Community Library still has seeds just waiting to be planted.

At the time of posting, we have Broad Beans, Dwarf French Beans, (not so enormous) Turnips, Leeks and Radishes all looking for a home as well as a bumper crop of gardening books for all ages.

07/05/2026
