I am pleased to support the Schools banking Pilot that will be launching this month. Larkhall Academy has been selected as one of two schools in Scotland to pilot an intensive new programme delivered by Scottish Financial Enterprise and the Royal Bank of Scotland.

49% of young people report feeling uncomfortable engaging with financial institutions. Furthermore, over half of 7-to-17-year-olds do not receive meaningful financial education at school, yet early, supported contact is proven to build crucial financial confidence.

Through this fantastic initiative Pupils will receive practical, real-world financial education which is important for their future. The final session will provide every participating pupil with a direct, streamlined pathway to opening their own basic bank account 🏦💷

Financial education is important and I welcome any initiative that provides this to our children and prepares them for the future.
