3-1-5 boasts two pools, one 25m lane swimming pool and a smaller warmer lagoon for our Littler Rays!
We also have a revolutionary new swim school system that allows for all our parents to see their Stingrays progress . Check it out in the link below! https://315swimschool.courseprogress.co.uk
Below we’ve included a (not so) breif overview of our three main programmes here at Stingrays, feel free to have a read though and them out.
Otherwise known as the Adult and Child programme, the Mini Mantas sessions are the first steps in the Stingray journey.
Stingrays in the Mini Mantas’ programme can start from as early as nine weeks, although the NHS does say babies can come in the water earlier (as chlorine kills all the bugs). It’s advised that when mum has had a C section she should take a 12 week minimum recovery time.
In this time, they gain water confidence and develop the water safety skills that will become invaluable to them in later life. Lessons include teaching breath control, drowning prevention skills, building confidence to achieving independence, develop buoyancy, movement, coordination, strength and stamina and motor skills in a fun environment.
The Mini Mantas programme has been developed by our adult and child specialist Anna. Anna is a qualified nursery nurse and has ensured that the programme is best built around feed and nap times for the correct ages. Also, that any skills developed are done so in correlation with the child's development.
“My 5-year-old had his first lesson today. He can't swim and is very shy in new situations. His swimming teacher was absolutely amazing with him.”
As the name would suggest anyone who is booked into an adult and child lesson will need to accompany the child to that lesson and get into the water. Adult and child classes run on a Mondays, Wednesdays,Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, starting at 10:30 AM running in half hour increments. The stages are Beginner, Improver and Advanced.
Little Rays - Pre School Classes
Our Pre-School programme is also called our Little Rays programme. All Stingray lessons are based on the ethos of learn though play but this programme more than others.
In the Little Rays programme swimmers as young as two and a half can go to lessons without the need of a parent/guardian accompanying them in the water.
Beginner Rays (maximum 3) develop basic safety awareness and drowning prevention skills, well as water confidence and movement through fun, henceforth gaining strength, coordination and independence as they learn to use a float and swim on a woggle, with the aim of completing the first steps towards swimming with aids.
Improver Rays (maximum 5) can float on a woggle independently a distance of between 1 and 5m. This section of the programme addresses the swimmers’ independence in learning to float and swim independently without the use of aids.
Advanced Rays (maximum 5) can swim on both their front and back. They're starting to enhance the skills learned in previous sections of the programme but with a main focus on developing stamina (up to 25m), water safety and life-saving skills.
“'Harrsion loves his swimming lessons, he thinks he is having fun and games in the pool each week, but we can see his abilities and confidence continue to improve!”
Little Rays classes are half an hour long, and since preschoolers can attend lessons during the day this programme is run both in the morning and evening.
Stingrays & Graduation - School aged children
School ages children are ready for our main programme the “Stingray” programme. This follows 7 stages as developed by ‘Sport England’.
With lessons running 6 days a week, 4pm until 7pm in the week and 9am-12pm on weekends there is lots of choice for Stingrays to plan their lessons around their social life.
Stage 1 (Maximum 6) - Specifically for non-swimmers this class develops basic safety awareness and drowning prevention skills, as well as water confidence and movement skills by developing strength and co-ordination and independence. Skills such as learning to float on a woggle and the first steps to swimming. Other skills include safe entries and exits, floating, independent travel and rotation.
Stage 2 (Maximum 7) - Swimmers are just starting to swim independently between 1-5m on their front and can float independently on their backs. This class will focus on regaining an upright position in the water and then starting to develop the basic strokes.
Stage 3 (Maximum 7) - This stage is broken up into two halves Stage 3 Learner and Stage 3 Main because it’s such a vast stage. Swimmers starting in this stage will be able to swim 10m on both their front and back and to move into the ‘Main’ stage must be comfortable swimming in the main pool without an instructor in the water. In this stage, we’re looking at basic technique, stamina and submersion.
Stage 4 (Maximum 8) - Stage 4 swimmers will be able to swim a length on their front and back with good technique and have a basic understanding of both Butterfly and Breastroke. swimmers will develop the understanding of buoyancy through a range of skills, and refining kicking technique for all strokes.
Stage 5 (Maximum 8) - The main focus for this stage is water skills so sculling, treading water and rotations. This stage develops all four strokes, so it is a pre-request that swimmers can swim 25m of each stroke and a minimum of 100m front crawl and backstroke.
Stage 6 (Maximum 8) - Swimmers should have a comprehensive knowledge of all four strokes and have a basic understanding of the importance of preparation to exercise. Swimmers will work towards an awareness of water safety and competitive principals.
Stage 7 (Maximum 8) - Final stages of developing quality stroke techniques and working on stamina, fitness and expanding on competitive swimming principals.
Graduation…
After swimmers complete the learn to swim programme they are invited to attend 3-1-5s’ Swim Squad, MAD Divings’ Stingrays Scuba RAYngers or Lancaster Area Search and Rescues’ Rookie Lifeguard.
