🌟 New Cadet NCOs 🌟

As our unit's grows from strength-to-strength, we need new Cadet Non-commissioned Officers to take responsibilities on the unit.

Officer Commanding, Flt Lt Sherwin was delighted to promote eight cadets to various ranks, including three new Corporals, three new Sergeants and two Flight Sergeants!

This represents significant work for each of these cadets, who will now take on additional duties and will embody the unit's positive culture.

Congratulations each and every one of you on this huge achievement, your hard work has paid off!

⛑️ First Aid Success ⛑️

We are proud to announce that, after attending a week-long course hosted by North Region, Cdt Sgt Fallows has now completed the RAFAC's premier Gold First Aid qualification!

The course consisted of assessments of his personal standard of first aid skills, as well as his ability to instruct and deliver first aid training to a group of junior cadets.

We look forward to seeing him take the lead with first aid delivery on squadron, to improve the training we deliver and to provide life-saving skills!

A huge well done to Sgt Fallows!

💪 Squadron Activity Weekend September 2026 💪

This weekend, we hosted our inaugural Squadron Activity Weekend! Our cadets got up to all sorts of training, including:

🛠 Initial weapons training on the BSA Scorpion Air Rifle
💂‍♂️ Drill & Ceremonial practice for our upcoming WTD competition
🚀 Blue space course
🎯 Live fire marksmanship training
🪖 Leadership training

The squadron wished a pleasant goodbye last week to two of our cadets. After years of dedicated service, Cdt FS J Murphy and Cdt FS H Jones finally departed 2056 Squadron, ageing-out of the RAFAC at 20yrs.

Cdt FS Murphy has been a member of 2056 (Knutsford) since 2019. He quickly became an instrumental member of the unit band, leading and delivering exceptional musical training and performances. Quickly rising in the ranks, he completed numerous courses, including advanced leadership and music qualifications, and soon became the unit's senior cadet NCO. As a leading voice in reorganising and bringing the squadron through the COVID19 Pandemic, his input at 2056 (Knutsford) will be missed.

Cdt FS Jones joined us later than most, as a transfer from a Combined Cadet Force (CCF) unit. Arriving at Knutsford in 2023, he rapidly integrated into our NCO team, took the reigns and became a leading personality within the squadron. Having completed instructional qualifications, assisting with the delivery at sector-level with training and delivering initial training to recruits, he too has played a crucial role at Knutsford.

We wish you both the best of luck in their future. The doors of Knutsford Squadron will always be open to you.

🎯 ZERO TO HERO RIFLE TRAINING! 🎯

Eight Staff from across Greater Manchester Wing have taken their first steps into air rifle shooting through our latest Zero to Hero training day.

Staff received initial weapons training on the Scorpion multi-shot air rifle before putting their new skills into practice through live firing. The day also opened the door to further development, including progression towards the Air Rifle Range Conducting Officer course.

Flight Lieutenant Gareth Jones, Deputy Wing Shooting Officer, said:

“Zero to Hero is about giving our volunteers the opportunity to develop new skills, build confidence and access training they may not previously have considered. By investing in our CFAV, we increase the number of staff able to deliver safe, enjoyable shooting opportunities for cadets across the Wing.”

Congratulations to everyone who took part—and thank you to the staff who helped deliver the training.

🛩 What do u get up to at the weekend? 🛩

Earlier this month, our cadets journeyed to RAF Woodvale and took to the skies in non-powered aircraft under the instruction of 632 Volunteer Gliding School!

Flying is at the core of our organisation, so it's great to see cadets pursue aviation so actively and with such enthusiasm.

Last week saw 3 cadets from the Squadron head to North Wales to undertake their Gold DofE Assessed Expedition, along with the support of 2 volunteers from the unit ensuring the smooth running the expedition.

Drill is one of the foundational elements of the cadet experience. From a recruit's first night to the most senior parades, it is the basis of discipline in RAFAC and is one of the most important things we do...

After months of hard work on the parade square, honing his drill knowledge and hundreds of hours of teaching drill on and off squadron, we are enormously proud to announce that our Sqn NCO, Sgt Arnold, has passed the SNCO Staff Drill Instructor Course (SDDIC) and is now a qualified DI!

Congratulations Sgt Arnold on this massive achievement, and to the other Drill Instructors from GM Wing!
