That baby would later become known as Mother Shipton.

She was said to possess incredible powers - visions of the future, strange predictions and an ability to see things others could not.

Her story has been told for hundreds of years.

Why does this teddy bear look like it’s made of stone?
Because it almost is… 👀🐻

This teddy bear has been petrified at Mother Shipton’s Petrifying Well, where the mineral-rich water slowly coats objects in layer upon layer of stone crust.

This process takes around 3–5 months for a soft teddy bear to be transformed.
Every year, these unusual, completely unique souvenirs prove incredibly popular and we sell out time and time again.

But good news… we’ve just released a fresh batch from the Petrifying Well, and they're back in stock online and in our Gift Shop!

This dream catcher has only been hanging beneath the Petrifying Well for 2 months... and look what's happened! 👀✨

Mineral-rich water flows over the object day after day, slowly leaving behind deposits and building up.

What begins as an ordinary object becomes a natural curiosity, shaped by one of England's most unusual geological wonders.

We always say that there’s something special about Mother Shipton’s as the seasons begin to change at this time of year. 🍂🖤
Not just for the colour of the trees, but the atmosphere too. The park is quieter, the woodland begins to change, and the cave feels colder - making this a lovely time of year to explore the history, folklore and unusual charm of this unique place.

We’re only open seasonally, closing after Halloween as we transform the attraction for Christmas, so there’s a limited window to experience Mother Shipton’s in this moodier season.🖤
