While we’ve got your attention! CONGRATULATIONS!

Off Cdt G Jones has, today, flown his first ever GIF cadet passengers, having achieved his Grade 1 Flying Category last weekend. A massive well done goes to our newest G1, and a big thank you for contributing to a perfect Longest Day result.

Off Cdt Jones, having been a Flight Staff Cadet on 661 before joining the East of Scotland Universities Air Squadron, has seen his hard work and dedication pay off today as he took the leap into giving cadets the experience of flight.

Massive well done 👏

We’re closing in on our last GIF to fly. Getting to this point has been a mega undertaking of coordination.

The centre of the airfield operation today has been our Duty Supervisors and Flight Ops Assistants. The nerve centre in the caravan, tracking launch numbers, cadet names, ballast weight states and building the most efficient strategy available. It’s no small feat, with plenty of independently moving parts.

There’s no time to relax, soon the day will be done!

Late shift are in full swing and there’s no stopping now! On a usual weekend, this would be draw-down time.

We’re still allowed to operate until 2217 (sunset +15 minutes) and so long as we haven’t completed our tasking that’s what we’ll do!

Late shift have arrived!

It’s been more than an hour since late shift’s handover and now it’s their playset until sunset! Early shift have made a healthy dent into the flying program, and it’s late shift’s mission to get it done!

With high spirits, smashing weather and a healthy dose of morale (snacks and sweets) it’s on track to be a fantastic afternoon.

Keep sending your photos to !

First launch on a normal weekend usually hovers some time after 0930, but not today! Our early shift are slowly approaching the end of their day, usually we’d just be starting!

It goes without saying that this requires a great deal of extra planning and risk assessments. This years Longest Day core team have pulled out all the stops and worked long volunteer hours outside of duty to make this possible, your team this year are:
Project Officer, Fg Off M Jennings; Deputy ProjO Sgt N Fraser and Ground Coordinator DSFSC E Melvin.

With still plenty to go and a shift change on the horizon, let’s keep going!
