๐Ÿด๐Ÿš’ Horses on the Road โ€“ Please Take Extra Care ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿด

When you see horses on the road, remember that they are powerful animals but can be easily startled by sudden noise or movement.

If you encounter a horse and rider:

โœ… Slow down well in advance
โœ… Be patient and give them plenty of space
โœ… Pass wide and slowly when it is safe to do so
โœ… Avoid sounding your horn unless absolutely necessary
โœ… Do not rev your engine or accelerate sharply nearby

A startled horse can react unpredictably, putting the rider, the horse, pedestrians, and other road users at risk.

A few extra seconds of patience can help prevent a serious incident and keep everyone safe.

Please help us spread the message: Slow down, stay calm, and show consideration when passing horses on our roads.

Ashfield has a new vehicle.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) has officially introduced a new state-of-the-art Command Support Unit (CSU), strengthening its ability to respond to complex emergencies and keep communities safe.

The specialist vehicle will play a vital role at major incidents, acting as a central hub for command, communication and coordination. Equipped with the latest technology, the CSU provides resilient, high-performance communication systems, enabling firefighters and incident commanders to operate effectively in even the most challenging situations.

Based at Ashfield Fire Station, the CSU will be mobilised to larger incidents, including significant fires, flooding and other major emergencies, where it will support command teams on the ground.

The new unit forms part of the Serviceโ€™s ongoing investment in modern equipment and emergency response capabilities, with a strong focus on improving firefighter safety and delivering the best possible outcomes for the public.

Before entering service, the vehicle underwent rigorous testing to ensure it met the highest operational standards, with a dedicated NFRS project team conducting intensive training and comprehensive full-system testing.

Area Manager Matt Reavill, Strategic Lead for the project, said: "This is a significant milestone for the Service and a great example of collaborative working. The new CSU represents the latest developments in the UK fire and rescue sector and will support our incident commanders, crews and emergency service partners in responding effectively to major incidents and keeping our communities safe."

Assistant Chief Officer Damien West added: โ€œThis investment is part of our broader commitment to modernising our fleet and ensuring our crews have access to the very best equipment and specialist vehicles. The introduction of the CSU strengthens our long-term capability and helps us continue improving the service we provide to the public.โ€

๐Ÿก Do you have enough smoke alarms in your home?

Make sure you have at least one smoke alarm fitted on every level of your property to give you and your family the best possible protection.

For maximum effectiveness, install smoke alarms on the ceiling in hallways, bedrooms and living areas. Avoid fitting standard smoke alarms in kitchens and bathrooms, where steam and cooking fumes can cause false alarms. Instead, consider installing a heat alarm, which is activated by a rise in temperature rather than smoke.

Donโ€™t forget to test your alarms regularly to ensure theyโ€™re working properly. A few seconds of testing could make all the difference in an emergency. ๐Ÿš’

The wait is over ๐Ÿ™Œโšฝ

The World Cup is about unforgettable moments, celebrating together, and making memories for all the right reasons.

If youโ€™re heading out to watch the game, help keep those memories positive:

๐Ÿšซ Donโ€™t drink and drive โ€” arrange a lift or take public transport

๐Ÿ“ฑ Keep your eyes on the road, not the score

๐Ÿš— Stick to the speed limit

๐Ÿ”’ Buckle up

โœ… Drive to arrive

Letโ€™s make this World Cup one to remember โ€” for the right reasons.

Everyone at Ashfield Fire Station is deeply saddened to hear of the death of Northumbria Police officer PC Jess Turnbull, who lost her life while serving her community.

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with her family, friends, and all of her colleagues at Northumbria Police during this incredibly difficult time.

Rest in peace, Jess. Your service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

A police officer has tragically died in the line of duty after a collision in Northumberland.

PC Jess Turnbull was responding to a collision which occurred on the A189 Spine Road in Cramlington at about 11.10pm on Monday.

While at the scene, she was outside of a marked police vehicle when she was struck by a black Mercedes CLC which was unconnected to the original incident.

Jess was taken to hospital where yesterday, surrounded by her loved ones, she sadly died.

Jess, who was 19, joined the Force in September last year and worked on the response policing team in Northumberland.

Our thoughts very much remain with her family and those impacted by this devastating loss.

If you would like to leave a written tribute to Jess, you can do so by leaving a comment below.

Earlier today, both appliances attended a fire at a residential property where the likely cause was a tumble dryer.

The photographs show the significant smoke and heat damage caused to the property. We would like to thank the occupier for allowing us to share these images as a warning to others.

For your safety, please do not leave tumble dryers, washing machines, or e-bike/e-scooter batteries running or charging while you are asleep or away from home.

We also strongly recommend having at least one working smoke alarm on every level of your property and testing them regularly.

A few simple precautions can help prevent a devastating fire and protect lives.
