From the South Durham and Lancashire Union Railway, they are a key part of our Victorian industrial heritage.

The permissive path (the Viaduct walk) between Hartley and Stenkrith will be closed on Friday 24 January due to the high winds forecast. All the entrances will be taped shut, so please do not enter.

We are sorry we have had to do this, but dangerously high winds have been forecast. Please stay safe.

The Fellfoot Forward scheme has developed ‘slow’ walking and cycling routes to encourage curiosity, exploration and immersion in the landscape. The differently accessible routes offer people the opportunity to take their time travelling in the landscape, learning about the heritage along the way.

Check out the Eden walks which include Ainstable, Kirkoswald and Long Meg.

🚂✨ Join us on our next Steam charter train….

We’re thrilled to unveil a special chartered steam train journey from Bradford to Carlisle as part of the Railway 200 celebrations and Bradford City of Culture 2025!

📅 Saturday 31st May 2025

🌄 Travel along the iconic Settle-Carlisle Railway and explore the historic city of Carlisle before returning via West Coast Main Line, travelling over Shap Summit to Carnforth, where a heritage diesel loco will replace our steam locomotive, and then back to Bradford via the Bentham line.

The steam locomotive that has been requested is LMS 7P “Scots Guardsman

This is an opportunity to experience stunning scenery, historic landmarks, and experience the magic of steam travel.

Projects aimed at helping boost the visitor, heritage and cultural offer of Kirkby Stephen are set to see significant progress this month.

This includes our project of new interpretation boards to improve wayfinding throughout the town. The panels will share local heritage, stories and little-known facts as well as practical direction and signage.
