NEWS RELEASE

New Local Plan goes to Full Council

An essential framework document for shaping future development in Blaby District will go to Full Council on Tuesday 30 June.

Councillors will be asked to consider the new Local Plan, the authority’s most important statutory planning document.

It sets out a long term vision up to 2042 for where development, such as homes, schools, employment and retail centres, should occur and where areas of countryside and local heritage should be safeguarded. An up-to-date Local Plan allows the Council to positively manage sustainable growth while protecting areas from inappropriate development.

Years of evidence gathering, dialogue and national policy review have led to this point, with the Local Plan now at the Regulation 19 stage – the final draft version. If agreed by Full Council, this will go out to public consultation before being submitted to the government’s Planning Inspectorate for independent review.

Councillor Mike Shirley, Blaby District Council portfolio holder for Planning and Strategic Growth, said: “Local Plans are crucial in guiding planning decisions, helping deliver vital infrastructure and ensuring development meets the District’s key priorities. These include tackling homelessness, boosting the economy, preserving heritage assets and nature, as well as supporting sustainable, well connected and thriving neighbourhoods.”

The agenda documents, which should be updated by 6pm, can be seen on our website.

We would very much appreciate your views on the Green Hut/Cricket Pavilion.

There are two options to be considered...
REBUILD
As this is situated on Recreation Ground Charity land, the Council, as trustee, is only looking to rebuild on the existing footprint - If this is your preferred option, please let us know your ideas for a new purpose build.
DEMOLISH
If no building is required, this will be demolished and the services capped.

What's your view ?
