Can you tell fact from fiction online?

Fake news, scams, and misinformation are everywhere — but you don’t have to face them alone.
Join us for an in-person talk on the topic of online safety from cyber security expert Dr Jana Vidis, and hear from Norman Stevenson, who will draw on his years of experience in the investigation unit of Police Scotland to share real-life cases of fraud and highlight common mistakes people make online.

Aberdeenshire Libraries invite you to a FREE community event:

It’s that time of year again — we’re getting ready for the Summer Reading Challenge!

Our theme this year is “Just Read!”, celebrating 2026 as the National Year of Reading.
It’s also especially fitting as we celebrate 25 years of the Summer Reading Challenge in Aberdeenshire Libraries.

Whether you love adventure, mystery, magic, or something totally new, this year is all about discovering the joy of reading in your own way.

Do you know how to recognise fake news?

From clever headlines to convincing images, it’s getting harder to tell what’s real online, and what isn’t! Misinformation spreads fast, and anyone can be caught out.

To reduce the chances of you getting caught join us at Westhill library on Thursday 30th April, 7.30pm to 9.30pm. Here we will be looking at how to explore how fact and fiction blur in the digital world, and learn simple ways to question what you see and share.

Sign up today and sharpen your digital awareness by going to https://tinyurl.com/4jzhxrtn

No technical knowledge needed.

This initiative is funded by The Scottish Library & Information Council Public Library Improvement Fund.
