🌟 Good News Story 🌟

Over the past year, Lyndon has shown remarkable commitment to making positive changes in his life. With support from local services and his own determination, he has developed strong routines, improved his engagement with appointments, and taken important steps towards a more stable future.

One of his proudest achievements has been transforming his garden and home environment, creating a space he can truly be proud of. He has also built a strong support network, developed positive coping strategies, and is now actively planning for the future with optimism and confidence.

A fantastic example of how perseverance, support, and personal determination can lead to meaningful change. Well done, Lyndon! 👏

— not just this week, but all year round, we say thank you to all our volunteers, past and present. Below is a testimony from one of our current volunteers:

"I like to involve myself in matters that genuinely make a difference to people's lives. The project's that Humbercare are involved with resonate with me and volunteering connects me to a purpose bigger than myself. Seeing someone really withdrawn gradually open up and begin to engage with life again and witnessing progress is a real reward. My listening skills have grown enormously along with patience and a better understanding of people in differing situations to that of myself."

The best part..... The people & camaraderie!

Volunteering experience in 3 words:
🔸Rewarding
🔸Eye-opening
🔸Human!

“If you're thinking of volunteering just try it, you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner”

🧡What began as a thoughtful gesture from Rilie, a local Level 3 hairdresser, has developed into an ongoing offer to support women within one of our services. During her recent visit, she provided free haircuts, helping many of the women feel refreshed, more confident, and cared for.

🧡The visit was met with very positive feedback, with some women sharing that they had not had a haircut in many years. Having the opportunity to sit down for a haircut and enjoy a friendly conversation made a meaningful difference to their day and wellbeing.

🧡Following the success of the session, Rilie has chosen to continue volunteering her time on a regular basis. Her generosity and willingness to use her skills to support others has already had a lasting impact, highlighting how simple acts of kindness can help people feel valued and empowered - Thank you!

📢We’re delighted to share some fantastic news regarding our partnership with Specsavers!

Following a recent hearing screening at a clinic, one of our service users was identified as a candidate for hearing aids. After attending a full hearing assessment yesterday, they left just an hour later with two hearing aids fitted and ready to use!

Specsavers have also kindly offered us a Hearing Care Drop-In session, helping us to support even more service users to access the hearing care they need.

Helping someone reconnect with the world around them and hear properly again for the first time in many years is a moment that truly highlights the impact of accessible healthcare support and partnership within the community!

Thank you for your support! 🧡

Hull Foster Care Fortnight 11-24 May 2026

As part of our support for local communities, we’re sharing this message on behalf of Hull Fostering Hull City Council

Right now, there are children in Hull who need safe, caring foster homes — but not enough people have considered fostering or realised they could make a difference.

Fostering can change a child’s future by giving them stability, encouragement, and a sense of belonging at a time when they need it most. Every child deserves the chance to feel safe, supported, and valued.

That’s why we’re asking something simple — Tell one person! 📢

Someone you work with. Someone you know. Someone you trust. Someone who has the patience, kindness, and compassion to help a child thrive.

In a city like Hull, word of mouth really matters. One conversation, one share, or one recommendation could help a child find the safe and loving home they deserve — and could change both their future and someone else’s life forever.

You don’t need to have all the answers — just help start the conversation.

Day 5 - Mental Health Awareness Week

🧡You’re not alone

Struggling with mental health is more common than many people realise - and support is always available. You don’t need to wait until things feel serious before reaching out.

Talking to someone early can help prevent things from getting worse and make challenges feel more manageable.

What support can look like:

• Speaking to a friend, colleague, or family member
• Contacting a helpline or professional service
• Using workplace support
• Taking time to access trusted information and resources

🧡Why it matters

Reaching out is a strength, not a weakness - and no issue is “too small” to talk about.
Tip: Save one support contact in your phone today so it’s there if you or someone else may ever need it.

🧡Support available:
You’re not alone – Here are a range of different support services

Day 4 - Mental Health Awareness Week

🧡You don’t need to be an expert when it comes to supporting someone…

In fact, most people don’t need advice - they just need someone to listen without judgement.

Small conversations can make a big difference, even if they feel simple.

How to help someone:
• Ask open questions (“How have you been feeling lately?”)
• Listen without interrupting or trying to fix things
• Acknowledge how they feel (“That sounds really tough”)
• Check in again later, not just once
• Suggest talking groups / social groups

🧡Why it matters
Many people struggle in silence because they worry about being a burden. A simple check-in can break that cycle.

Reach out to someone today - even just a short message can make all the difference.

🧡Support available:

Andys Man Club
Samaritans
