Nestled in the serene East Riding Countryside, Burton Constable Hall and our expansive parkland offer an unforgettable experience that captures the essence of our history and heritage. At the heart of the experience in Burton Constable Hall itself, is the Cabinet of Curiosities, an early “museum” showcasing rare and fascinating artifacts collected by William Constable during the Enlightenment. Exp

lore the preserved stables, including the Stable Boys’ bedroom, for a glimpse into the estate life, and marvel at the skeleton of a whale that inspired Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick. Stroll through our Capability Brown-designed parkland, with walking trails that meander through ancient grounds, past serene lakes, and open grasslands where wildlife flourishes. Relax at the Stables Kitchen for homemade treats or browse the gift shop for a souvenir that supports our charitable aims and ongoing preservation of Burton Constable Hall and Parkland. Burton Constable is a place that ignites curiosity, celebrates our history and heritage, offering something for everyone.

What stories could 400 years of history tell?

Completed by the late 16th century, the Long Gallery became a library in the 1740s when Cuthbert Constable installed large bookcases to house his growing collection. By the 18th century, the room was a place of study and experiment, filled with books, scientific instruments and a passion for learning.

Later, it became a space for gatherings, music and entertainment, while 19th-century plasterwork, textiles and furnishings helped create the character visitors see today.

When you visit the Long Gallery, look out for its many historic chairs – including one said to have been used by Queen Victoria during her visit to Hull.
