🌸Cervical screening awareness 🌸

Are you up to date with your cervical smear test?
Nearly 1 in 3 don't attend their cervical screening test

🌸Did you know you are entitled to a free cervical smear test every 5 years from the age of 25 - 64 years. Unfortunately, this test cannot be done when you're pregnant.
🌸Everyone with a cervix should have a cervical screen
🌸The cervix is the opening to your womb via your va**na
🌸This test helps to prevent cancer
🌸A small sample of cells are taken from the cervix at your appointment
🌸The sample is checked for types of human papillomavirus (HPV) that can cause changes to the cells of your cervix. These are called high risk types of HPV.
🌸If these types of HPV are not found, you do not need any further tests.
🌸If these types of HPV are found, the sample is checked for any changes in the cells of your cervix. These can be treated to help prevent cervical cancer.
🌸You can have your cervical smear test done 3 months after you have had your baby, make sure you book in with your GP
🌸If you are worried about a cervical smear test or your results please speak to a health professional

🌟Learning disability awareness week 🌟

🌟Being seen, valued and heard throughout your pregnancy and post birth

🌟All individuals have the right to access care without discrimination

🌟Human rights law and equality law give you additional rights in pregnancy and childbirth with any disability

🌟Respecting your choice and dignity is important when supporting you to make decisions about your care

🌟If you are struggling with the resources or accessibility of information which we provide please reach out to your midwife or the team at the ask a midwife service to see if we can help provide care based on your individual needs. This could be written information in leaflet format instead of digital or using videos for visual content or allocating more time at appointments

🌟It can be hard to navigate pregnancy and post birth with a learning disability

🌟Addressing any learning disabilities you have can help your midwife and obstetric team tailor care towards you and your pregnancy/ birth needs

🌟Sometimes additional plans or support might be needed

🌟If you or your partner need more support and help please escalate this at the start of your journey to help improve health outcomes throughout your maternity care

🌟Knowing how you feel/ any adjustments and what we can do to improve your maternity care is important to us

🫂BIRTH PARTNER RESOURCES 🫂

As Birth Partners, our role through pregnancy, delivery and beyond is so important. We can do so much to help our partner through this incredible journey, but we also need a little support to look after them, our babies and ourselves too.

That's why these resources were put together alongside real Birth Partners from across Humber and North Yorkshire, to answer some of the questions you may have, give a little guidance and help you feel more confident, comfortable and equipped to play this massively important role." – Matthew, Birth Partner Project Lead

⭐SUPER SUNDAY⭐️

To second of Super Sunday Thank You posts today comes from Adrianne, regarding her birth on the Fatima Allam Birth Centre (AMLU) and the care she received during her pregnancy from her Community Midwife:

"We had our second baby on the MLU on the 6th January which just so happened to be our wedding anniversary!
The whole experience was absolutely seamless, we were greeted by Danielle (who we thought due to the time and the shift changes would miss the birth which we were disappointed at the thought of!) and checked in to the most gorgeous relaxing space in the Fatima Allam birth centre, it felt more like a hotel than a hospital!
After a quicker than anticipated labour, Danielle did eventually end up delivering our baby boy with Kelly (MSW) at 6.30am, after being the most empowering midwives you could have ever have dreamed of. Danielle’s belief in me the entire time made me believe I could do it, especially as my first birth was not what I’d hoped for.
Then came along Cat and Alex who were absolutely fabulous getting everything postnatal sorted, so that we were home in time for our toddler coming home from nursery!
A special shout out to community midwife Jane too, who I saw throughout my first and second pregnancies. I was initially consultant led but her advice to help me advocate for a water birth was invaluable. Again her support and belief in me was unfaltering the entire time.
I’ll truly be grateful to everyone involved forever, for giving me my dream birth that completely healed everything inside from the first."

Thank you Adrianne for your kind words ❤

⭐SUPER SUNDAY⭐️

To start off our day of Super Sunday Thank You posts, we have some lovely feedback from Hannah:

"I would like to say a huge thank you to the Enhanced Recovery Rowan Ward staff that looked after me Friday 8th May 2026. The three in particular that were amazing were Marie, Joanne and Charm. From the moment I arrived to when they finished their shift I was looked after, supported and cared for.

Our gorgeous baby boy was born at 10:46am via planned c-section.

Arlo Jude Thompson🩵"

Thank you Hannah for your kind words ❤
