Gas Safety Week: Take no chances in your home.

Hull City Council is once again supporting Gas Safety Week, the annual reminder to have gas appliances checked regularly.

Each year, we contact every tenant to make an appointment with our contractor, KWL, to carry out a gas safety check on their home.
If you can’t keep the appointment, get in touch to make one that suits you.

Remember – taking the right action helps protect your home and the people living in it from risks such as gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning.

When residents report anti-social behaviour, action can be taken.

Here are some examples of recent outcomes from reports received:

🏠 June – Newtown Court: two-year suspended possession order made against a tenant found with cannabis plants.

🏠 August – Grasby Road: five-year suspended possession order made against a tenant due to suspected drug dealing and anti-social behaviour.

🏠 August – Cropton Road: Tenancy demotion made against a tenant following a police investigation for burglary and assault.

⚖️ Numerous other cases are currently being pursued though the courts.

🪟 A quick window safety check could help prevent a serious accident.

Window restrictors are an important safety feature designed to stop windows opening too wide, helping to protect children and vulnerable people from falls.

If you live in an upper-floor property, take a few moments to check your windows and make sure any restrictors are fitted and working properly.

On Monday, members of our Tenants’ Forum Committee and officers attended a collaborative scrutiny session organised by Tpas.

The committee worked alongside tenants from Vico Homes to learn more about early intervention in anti-social behaviour (ASB) and explore how issues can be identified and addressed earlier.

A great opportunity to share ideas, learn from each other and work collaboratively to make a difference for tenants. 🏡💬

The Dorchester Road and Midmere Avenue Residents Association will be holding a meeting on Monday 14th September from 10:30am-11:30am to discuss housing and neighbourhood issues.

The meeting provides residents with an opportunity to share their views, raise any concerns and stay up to date with what is happening in the local area. All residents are welcome to attend.

The Multi-Storey Living Group is meeting this Wednesday 9 September, 10am–12pm at Warehouse 9.

The group will be discussing:

🔹 Streetscene – looking at communal areas across high-, medium- and low-rise flats
🔹 Maintenance – high-, medium- and low-rise flats
🔹 Pet policy – pets in flats 🐾

Our Domestic Abuse Champions at Hull City Council have been learning more about economic abuse. It involves the control of a victim’s money, finances and things that money can buy, such as clothing, transport, food and a place to live. It may include:

💷 Controlling your money
🔒 Blocking access to your bank account
🧾 Refusing to help with bills
⚠️ Creating debt in your name
🛂 Control due to no recourse to public funds

1 in 6 women experienced economic abuse in the UK from a partner or ex-partner in the past 12 months and over 50% of domestic homicide reviews involved economic abuse by a partner or ex-partner.

What a busy week it’s been for the TP Team and our Tenant Representatives! 👏 Swipe through to see what they’ve been up to this week. 🏠✨

The Tenants’ Forum Committee met to discuss key issues and agenda items for the next Tenants’ Forum, happening on Tuesday 22 September, 10am–12pm in room C1 at Guildhall. 💬🏠

The Green Doctor spoke to the Tenants’ Forum about the free advice they offer to help tenants save money on their energy bills. 💡💷

Tenant Representatives and TP officers were at North Point Shopping Centre, chatting to local residents about ways to get involved in their community. 💬🏠

A Neighbourhood Champion took an estate walk around St George’s Road, checking that the area was clean and tidy. They spotted some fly-tipping, which was reported and dealt with. 🏠👀

Neighbourhood Nuisance Manager updating the Forum on neighbourhood nuisance across Hull. 🏘️💬

🛠️ Repairs & Maintenance Group discussed how the repairs service is performing, adaptations for tenants needing additional support, and work to tackle damp and mould, including updates on Awaab’s Law. 🏠🪟💬

Police Sergeant answered questions from the Tenants’ Forum about community safety. 👮‍♂️💬
