🔧 Repair Café with Unity in Community HU6 was a blast!
Pat and I had a brilliant time getting hands-on with the community this month — here's what came through our doors:
🧊 Camper fridge — needs regassing and new parts. They're on order, watch this space!
🔌 Old iron — needed a full cable replacement. Fiddly job, but we got there!
⛄ Animatronic snowman — lost some of his moves! Pat's on the case — work in progress and we're rooting for him!
🌿 Garden chipper — wouldn't power on at all. Traced it down to a dodgy interlock and got it sorted!
🔊 Bluetooth speaker — needs a new charging port. Parts ordered, back on the bench next time!
Some great wins, a couple of jobs still in progress — that's the beauty of Repair Café! 💪
Huge thanks to everyone who came along and trusted us with their treasures. Every repair is one less thing in landfill. ♻️

🔧 We fixed our K4 Classic Pressure Washer — and it only cost £27.60.
It started leaking and couldn't build pressure. Sounds like the end, right? Wrong.
11 screws later (7 to open the casing, 4 to remove the head), we spotted the culprit — watermarks on the pump head. A replacement part, a bit of time, and it's back to full power.
Now think about how many pressure washers end up in landfill or recycling because of exactly this kind of fault. A single part. Sometimes one you can't even buy.
That's why we do what we do. Borrow, use, repair, reuse. 💚⚒️💚

🔧 Another brilliant Repair Café with Unity in Community HU6 last Sunday!
Our trio of fixers were on fire — here's how it went down…
⚙️ Barry kicked things off by giving the Library's scarifier a fresh set of tines — job done before the kettle had even boiled!
🪚 Pat got scrubbing and brought the Library's tile cutter back to its former glory.
🎮 Alan diagnosed a case of joystick drift on a Meta Quest headset — a blast of electrical cleaner and a good blow-out and it was back in action. Game on! 🕹️
📄 Barry then took apart a paper shredder for Debbie — a proper strip-down and clean later, it was shredding like a champ again.
📀 Pat had a DVD player for Alison that just needed a good internal clean — sorted in a jiffy! 🎬
🥄 Alan investigated Barbara's foot massager, which turned out to be working perfectly — sometimes the best fix is a bit of reassurance! 😄
💨 Pat then took a look at Barbara's dehumidifier — sadly the power supply had given up the ghost and a replacement was too pricey, so this one couldn't be saved. But at least we know!

Big thanks to Barry, Pat, and Alan for their brilliant skills — and to everyone who came along and gave repair a chance before reaching for the bin!

We started a Kids Ravage Club with the aims of getting young people to take technology apart and teach them how things work to become the repairers of the future, it was a great success, since then a Rockwood Repair & Reuse Centre in Portland, created a similar model and it was a hit too. Now its time to tell everyone else about this project. Join us for a two day Share and Repair Summit, 2 days of inspiration, peer-learning, and conversation!

From a Henry Hoover to a 1950s clockwork cat (yes, really!), we tackled some brilliant repair challenges this month with Unity in Community HU6
The fix list:
✅ Henry Vac - back in action
✅ 1950s clockwork cat - purring again
✅ Carpet cleaner - sorted
✅ Sewing machine - stitching away
🔍 Plus we diagnosed issues with a strimmer battery charger, an iPod nano and another sewing machine.
Massive thanks to Barry and Pat for volunteering their time and expertise! And a special shout-out to Raymond from FCC (local recycling depots) who stopped by see how they can help and with biscuits and tea – perfect fuel for fixing! ☕🍪
