Elections 2022: Lib Dems gain more councillors in England than any other party 🎉

No elections here in Northamptonshire but plenty of golden local cheer as Thursday’s local election results came in:

🔶 FOUR new Lib Dem councillors elected to Cherwell DC (in Bicester South & Ambrosden, Laundon & Otmoor, Adderbury, Bloxham & Bodicote)
🔶 In Milton Keynes, Lib Dems took Campbell Park and Old Woughton from the Conservatives
🔶 In Rutland, Lib Dems took Uppingham from Conservatives (by-election)
🔶 Richard Church, former Northampton Lib Dem councillor, elected in Powys

🔶 Lib Dems Win in Oundle, Northamptonshire as Tory Vote Collapses 🔶

💨 Despite the storm outside, another storm was brewing as the votes were counted this morning following yesterday's by-election in Oundle Ward (North Northants), a so-called "shock" result. The winner was Lib Dem Charlie Best, with a clear majority of 206 votes.

😁 And what a winner for the residents of Oundle, Charlie Best being local and an experienced town councillor and local school governor, the campaign slogan of rang true to voters furious and in despair at Westminster corruption and shenanigans but also by not having local representation on the council -- the previous Tory councillor having moved to Norfolk and other ward councillors living outside the area.

⚠️ A traditionally true blue heartland, this was a local by-election that really mattered to the Tories. Local MPs were out on the doorsteps with Peter Bone MP telling the media that no-one was bothered about partygate,

🗳The ballot box tells a different story. The blue wall is crumbling because residents want - and deserve - integrity and truth in their representatives. People who will put their interests first, not their own.

At Thursday’s full Council meeting of West Northamptonshire, the Conservative group appear to have been whipped to defeat a motion by the Liberal Democrats to recognise and support the White Ribbon Campaign.

Congratulations to Sally Beardsworth who topped the poll to be elected as Councillor for Kingsthorpe South on the new West Northamptonshire Council. Sally was also elected to the Kingsthorpe Parish Council.

Sadly, she will not be joined by Stewart Tolley & Tony Woods.

The result of Thursday's vote is that Kingsthorpe South will be represented by Sally (Lib Dem), Harry Barrett (Labour) and Cheryl Hawes (Conservative).
