The unit’s role is to provide personnel to support regular RAF Regiment Gunners, who defend the RAF’s assets on operations worldwide. The Squadron provides training sessions on regular Wednesday evenings and one weekend a month, in addition to an annual 2-week exercise either in the UK or overseas. Our Gunners receive specialist training in combat first-aid, off-road driving, dismounted close comb
at tactics and learn how to operate a variety of weapons from pistols to the heavy machine gun. Gunners also become skilled in the use of the latest night-vision aids and communications equipment. No previous military experience is required, as all military training and equipment will be provided. In return, as well as good rates of pay and travelling expenses, all reservist volunteers will get the chance to take part in a wide variety of adventurous activities and, for a minimum commitment of just 27 days a year, they are also eligible to apply for an annual tax-free bonus of up to £1674-00.
