COMING UP! We have two great events next week, both outside West Norfolk but inside our Careline service area which extends across Norfolk and into parts of Cambs

Thursday 17th we have a Parkinson's UK information event in North Walsham. If you're living with Parkinson's, or supporting someone who is, this is the event for you. Pop along between 2-4pm to meet organisations, like us, who can support you.

Friday 18th we at Fenland District Council's amazing Golden Age event in Manea, near Chatteris, supporting the over 60s in that area. Free coffee and cake and dozens of support organisations to help you live your best life. 10am - 12.30pm.

Details of both are on our events page here: https://www.careline-cs.org.uk/events/

Lovely to spend some time with the residents of Downham Market on market day last Friday. On this occasion we were joined by Faye from Norfolk County Council's adult social services department, to offer even more help, advice and support to local people.

Thanks to Downham Market Town Council for the gazebo, and look out for more of these events soon!

91% of people in the East of England have now switched their telephone landline to digital voice, but if you're one of the 9% still on an analogue line, it's time to make the switch.

If you don't, BT, and other providers, will start disrupting your broadband internet service to prompt you to make contact with them.

Save yourself the hassle and upgrade your line now. There's no cost to upgrade, and BT are still offering an ultra-fast fibre connection in many areas, free of charge.

Don't delay the switch!

When your landline is switched to digital, you'll need to connect your telephone handset to your router. There is a green port on the back of your router for this, but what if you need your handset in a different room to your router? Or have more than one handset?

The answer is a Digital Voice Adapter. Your phone company should give you one free of charge (if you need one) when your line is switched, but you can also buy them in phone shops for £15-20.

Plug one into an electrical socket near your handset, then plug your handset into the port on the top. Then press the WPS "pair" button on the side, and on your router. This will connect your handset wirelessly to your router.

If you've already switched your telephone landline to digital, you're probably using the same handset as before, but maybe you've noticed your answerphone has stopped working?

If so, the reason is that all digital lines have a built-in voicemail service, 1571, enabled for free. Previously this would have been a paid service.

If 1571 is set to answer your phone after 4 rings, but your handset is set to answer after 6, the handset won't take the message - 1571 will take it first. You can alter the number of rings in the menu settings of 1571, or your handset, to choose which takes your messages.

Let us know in the comments if you've noticed anything else different about your digital line!

If you've switched your landline to digital, but still have an analogue care alarm plugged into your router, like this one, it's time you got a new alarm.

Even though this router is equipped to convert an analogue (electrical) signal to digital (data), there's no guarantee it will send both your voice and your data to the alarm monitoring centre when you press your button.

And if there is a power cut, it won't send anything.

Digital alarms don't need a phone line, and will send both voice and data digitally. They also have a battery backup that lasts 40-70 hours, in case of power cuts.

Stay safe with a digital care alarm installed by one of our engineers. Call us on 01553 616200 to get yours. There's no charge for our visit to upgrade.
