Remember folks its not just about the Law, its about safety and this couple actually looked at their alarm and sen it was two years out of date .. It actually had a "place replace June 2020" on the back of it ... protect your home protect your family.

Happy Wednesday everyone, we are halfway through the week. Just wanted to show an alarm that we removed today. The date it was installed was January 2000. Yes the owner replaced the battery every year but said it still beeped. Reason is that Alarms do tell you when they are no longer useful. We have now installed over 400 systems since last year and still going strong with great service price and the tidiest job. Yes the new aw is annoying but for your own safety and peace of mind if your alarm is over 10 years old Replace it... Thats what the fire service recommend

Evening all, another busy weekend finished and another lined up for this weekend. The referrals coming in to the business is brilliant as are the reviews, so thank you to our customers it really is much appreciated folks. In relation to the picture please pop into the hall or upstairs landing and look up at your smoke alarm. If it’s old and yellow it’s probably past it’s best and not operationally suitable anymore. I have seen a lot of people commenting on insurance and the new alarms … we’ll give your insurance company a call and instead of asking do you need the new alarms to get insurance ask them this “my smoke alarm in my house is over 20 years old and never been checked” I’m wondering what their answer may be. In southcraigs nearly all alarms are past their best and will state in the back replace after 10 years. Let us pop round and offer you a quote to be more safe and yes compliant.

Well what can we say about our service .. thank you to Mrs Murray for such kind words. On the back of her smoke alarm it stated “Do not use after 2005” and this is the point we were making. Most of southcraigs and other estates in the area have alarms over 20 years old and as she stated herself not fit for purpose. Danger !! If your home smoke alarms look like the one in the picture please get a small ladder reach up, give it a half turn and it will detach and please read the back…. Homes in southcraigs are over 20-22years old and still have the same original hard wired alarms … don’t take our word look at your own alarm and it will state replace after 10 years from date…. Most will be 1999. The sensors are done they will not be as effective and it’s a simple risk to what and who you love….

Just some pictures of what you can expect when fitting yourself ...... Having replaced so many in the kilmarnock area my last post showed just how old some of these alarms were. If you are tired of hearing about the "NEW LAW" we respect that it has not been well received. But have a look an some fire service websites such as Scottish English Welsh all state replace your alarms over 10 years. Why? well a great little video from a company in Australia have taken the time to explain just why alarms need replaced.

We have been reading many posts about I'm going to fit these alarms myself. Yes you can buy a cheap system that just came on the market and good luck with that. I see many adds popping up saying best price on market, but these are literally quick pop up companies with no historical experience in this market who have manufactured to a specification. We did try a few of these systems only to find customers phoning back saying the alarms were chirping after 3 months. We only fit the best, British standard tested and approved. But on fitting once you remove an old alarm you are faced with a nice large hole in the plaster ceiling filled with wires... what do you do now? At AFC we remove terminate and cover the existing hole professionally leaving no mess and little requirement for redecorating. See the reviews for yourself....

On a few installs this week i came across a frightening fact. Everyone has mixed reviews about the new compliance laws which is their right, and many saying Insurance companies still saying no change to policies. However, before the law even existed you are required to change your smoke alarms every 10 years. It's something we walk by every day and don't think about its condition or if its working fine, you put the fresh battery in every year or so and forget about it!! The Scottish fire service states every home should change their Alarm detection systems every 10 years for maximum efficacy. Have a look at some we removed this week in the pictures... Look at date of install or even the statement from manufacturer saying when to replace it. These alarms were in Southcraigs Estate .. yes they may pic up toast burning or bacon cooking but will they pick up that phone charger smouldering or the Sky box catching fire? All these things that are plugged in 24/7. Will insurance pay out if your alarms are almost 20 years old??????
