The John Burns Foundation

The John Burns Foundation The John Burns Foundation is a charitable trust founded to help make a difference to the lives of people and their pets throughout the UK.

Burns Pet Nutrition is a local business that grew and flourished thanks to the incredible support from the community in south west Wales, so it’s only right that we give something back to help and inspire charities, organisations and individuals to achieve their goals too. That’s why in 2007 Burns Pet Nutrition set up a charitable trust to help make a difference to the lives of people and their pets throughout the UK. It’s not just financial assistance we provide – we also share our resources and skills, especially when conservation, the countryside, education or pets are involved. We are developing exciting new projects and partnerships that help enhance the lives of disadvantaged people, by offering practical recreational facilities and life skill opportunities, as well as promoting the effects of the human animal bond with our Burns by Your Side Reading Dog scheme launched this year. We hope to develop meaningful partnerships with human rights and welfare organisations and would welcome any enquiries about how we can work together. For this and any further information about the work of Burns in the Community please see our website www.johnburnsfoundation.org

This is what the Growing Together Group did this week.
Myself, Ceri and Dai did some cooking in the kitchen with Kate. This week they cooked homemade pumpkin soup with soda bread, croutons and cheese and for pudding a cake.
I made the soup whilst Dai made all the soda bread.
Outside the gang went split in two, Wayne, Aron and Chris went to put some gravel around the new cabin. Brendan, Shaun, Simon, Christian and Steff went with Bridget to clear the area next to the glasshouse and mow the grass before the weather turned.

We ate lunch which we all enjoyed very much and then made some wood planters for the stall on Saturday.

Had a lovely creative day with Next steps. Getting the decorated wheelbarrow ready for the show on Saturday, some delicious food and saying goodbye to Andy one of the occupational therapists who is retiring. Good luck to you Andy and hope you come back to see us soon!
No sneak peaks of the wheelbarrow but we think it’s brilliant!

Before starting work, Chris, Bridget and Kate held a meeting with us all, in which we talked about an exciting new project that the Growing Together group are going to be involved in.and also about the Christmas Fair and the Llanfaelog show.

Myself, Chris, Christian, Brandon, Shaun, Richie, Simon H, George, Aaron, Gary and Antonia went up to the orchard to do some more apple harvesting.

To help us do the job, we took up with us crates, bags and an extendable apple catcher.

Whilst we were busy in the orchard the rest of the group including Dai and Steff stayed behind at the John Burns Centre to do some cooking in the kitchen with Kate.
This week they cooked home made vegetable curry with rice, jacket potatoes, dip, poppadoms and salad.
For pudding they made Dolly Parton's cuppa cuppa cake with cream.

Once everybody at the orchard completed what they were doing, they all went back to the workshop to have some food.

Everyone in the group really enjoyed their lunch very much.

After lunch, Dai and Steff helped Kate in the kitchen to wash, clean and dry up.
Whilst Dai and Steff were busy in the kitchen with Kate, the rest of the group did some more work outside with Chris and Bridget.
Some of the jobs that we did outside in the afternoon were mowing and strimming the grass by the vegetable beds.
