🌈 Pride is more than just a moment to celebrate diversity this month — it’s a reminder of the difference that understanding, acceptance, and belonging can make.

In Oxfordshire, we’re proud of our diverse community of foster carers, including LGBTQ+ carers and allies who provide inclusive, supportive homes where young people can truly thrive.

🌈💛 This Pride Month, we’re recognising what truly makes a family: love, acceptance and being yourself.

We’ll be at Oxford Pride this Saturday (6 June), celebrating with the community and showing our support.

We’re proud to champion diversity and inclusion in fostering. Our foster carers come from all backgrounds, including LGBTQ+ communities, helping children feel safe, accepted and valued for who they are.

We’d love to see you there — because what matters most isn’t who you are, but the care, stability and support you can offer a child.

Foster Care Fortnight really was a team effort!

We want to say a big thank you to everyone who got involved — from those who supported events to those who helped spread the word, even while braving all kinds of weather.

Your support makes a real difference for children and young people across the county, and we’re so grateful to have such a dedicated community behind us.

Last week, we introduced Chris and Tabitha, foster carers from Eynsham.

In their latest video, they open up about some of the common misconceptions around fostering, the barriers that can hold people back, and what they thought themselves before getting started.

Their honesty might just challenge what you think fostering looks like — and show that it could be more possible than you realise.

Take a moment to watch and hear their story.

Today marks the end of Foster Care Fortnight 🫶

To close the campaign, we’re sharing one final story from Tracy and Sarah, therapeutic foster carers from Henley.

They talk about how therapeutic fostering helps children who have experienced trauma feel safe, understood and supported – often through simple, everyday moments that help build trust over time.

Today we celebrate the outstanding contribution of Oxfordshire’s foster carers 💛

At the heart of it all, foster carers change children’s lives in lasting ways. The level of dedication and commitment goes far beyond a job.

Councillor Gaul and Lisa Lyons, Director of Children’s Services, were delighted to present awards at the Foster Carer Forum.

“The work foster carers do is incredibly important, incredibly valued, and truly makes a difference. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for everything you do,” said Councillor Gaul.

Lisa added: “Foster carers are the bedrock of everything we do. You change children’s lives every day, and you’re truly appreciated.”

To all our foster carers across Oxfordshire, we’re so grateful for the difference you make 👏

Thank you to Oxfordshire Foster Care Association for hosting the event.

Chris and Johnny entered foster care at 14 unsure of what to expect.

Four years later, they’re heading to university, building confidence, and even sharing their passion for boxing and fitness along the way 💛

Their story is an honest reminder that, while fostering can feel uncertain at first, with the right support and care it can open the door to stability, ambition and a bright future.

A young person going into foster care is likely to experience a range of emotions. There will be psychological barriers to overcome, the gradual building of trust, slowly adjusting to their new home and building a relationship and understanding with the foster carers.
