Enjoy the buzz - not the complaints⚽🍻

Worcestershire Regulatory Services are reminding pubs and clubs that may be having a fan zone/opening later than usual to watch World Cup games that they need to be considerate of noise disturbances from fans during and after games.

Simple steps such as closing open windows and doors, keeping commentary to a reasonable level, and preventing patrons from entering smoking areas late at night can make the difference between everyone enjoying the tournament and having complaints from local residents.

Please don’t risk your premises being issued with a warning, having conditions of their licence modified or being revoked entirely.

Protect your local reputation this World Cup, and have all of the fun, with none of the fallout. 🥳

This week is National Licensing Week and today's theme focuses on the night-time economy!

On Friday night, our Officers partnered with Worcester BID to walkaround the vibrant city centre ahead of their 5th Purple Flag assessment in July.

WRS provides the licensing administration on behalf of Worcester, and the engagement was a great opportunity to work alongside licensed premises and taxi drivers to create a safe, welcoming environment for residents and visitors.

Two convenience stores in Evesham have been handed three-month closure orders after being repeatedly found selling illegal ci******es, to***co and v**es with a retail value of more than £269,000.

International Mini Market and Super Mini Market, both based in Port Street, were ordered to close by Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 3 June under section 80 of the Anti‑Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.

Over a two-year period, officers carried out 16 raids seizing more than 10,300 packs of ci******es, more than 1,800 packets of hand-rolled to***co and 3,119 non-compliant v**es from both stores collectively.

Both stores were also caught selling a v**e to an underage person during test purchase operations.

The action was brought by Worcestershire Regulatory Services, acting on behalf of Wychavon, and followed an extensive investigation by officers from Worcestershire County Council Trading Standards, supported by the Evesham Safer Neighbourhood policing team (West Mercia Police).

Two weeks left!

Have your say on changes to Redditch Borough Council's Taxi and Private Hire Vehicles Licensing Policy!

The proposal would increase the maximum age limit for hackney carriage (taxi) and private hire vehicles by one year before their licence can no longer be renewed.

The consultation is open to everyone, whether you're a driver, business owner, or resident.

⏰The consultation closes at 9am on Monday 15 June.

The Air Quality team had the opportunity to visit the University of Birmingham's Air Quality Supersite (BAQS) facility in the Malvern Hills area to see first-hand the important work underway to better understand regional air quality impacts across the West Midlands.

It's a fantastic example of partnership working in action and shows how academia and local authorities can work together to support evidence-led environmental research and cleaner air for our communities.

One week left to have your say on changes to the Taxi and Private Hire Vehicles licensing policy! 🚖🚖

Wychavon District Council is considering whether to give certain taxi licensing vehicle inspection powers to Licensing Officers at WRS.

Currently, if a vehicle exceeds the maximum age limit for its relevant licence, then the decision to grant or renew an application must be made by a Licensing Sub-Committee.

Stakeholders, including those who have been issued taxi and private hire licences previously by the Council, are welcome to complete the survey.

⏳The consultation closes 9am on Tuesday 26 May.

Last week, Licensing Officers carried out a joint operation with City of Wolverhampton Council, Redditch Borough Council, and Redditch Police in Redditch town centre.

Staff conducted roadside checks on taxis and private hire vehicles operating within the area.

For Redditch-licensed vehicles:

✅ 10 vehicles and drivers were found to be compliant with their licence conditions.
⚠️ 7 vehicles were issued with direction notices requiring a full safety ramp inspection.
❌ 2 vehicles were found to be unroadworthy and in a dangerous condition.

As a result, both vehicle licences were immediately suspended, and both drivers will now have their licences reviewed.

This work forms part of our continued commitment to promoting public safety and ensuring licensed vehicles meet the required standards.
