Southfield School

Southfield School Secondary Girls School for Years 7 to 11, with co-educational 6th Form.
Southfield aims to provide for the future needs of our students.

Southfield enjoys an enviable reputation as one of the highest performing schools in the area in terms of our academic results, however, we are striving to build upon this with the aim of becoming a ‘World Class School’. Careers and types of employment opportunities are evolving and changing continually. Some are yet to be created and so we see it as our obligation to prepare our students to be co

mpetitive in anticipation of the unknown. Therefore, our strong focus on academic attainment is equalled by our commitment to develop transferable skills and personal characteristics through the many opportunities we provide. We provide an education that prepares our young people for a future in which they will need to be adaptable, resourceful and ethical in facing complex challenges. Being a Southfield student will mean the chance to be successful and have a positive influence on the global community. We aim for all of our students to be able to make an impact and leave a positive imprint on the world. We nurture our students with the future in mind today. Strong GCSE results at Southfield, with Year 11s excited for their future opportunities

It was another celebratory morning at Southfield School in Kettering, where Year 11 students collected their GCSE results, that have provided them with a platform for their next steps into adulthood.
There were strong results across the board, from the Arts to Business and English to Maths, with top grades secured in the majority of subjects and a strong range of the very highest grades achieved across the school as a whole.
Headteacher Chris Meadway said:
"I have a huge amount of time for this year group. They started secondary school in a very strange period and have spent five years quietly making up ground that other year groups never lost. They got on with it without fuss and without asking for allowances. This morning belongs to these students and I am so proud of them.

These results are also a testament to the tremendous efforts our staff have made in terms of supporting our students to fulfil and exceed their potential, the support they have received from their parents, as well as the strength of our wider school community.

I am also delighted that we will be welcoming the vast majority of our current Year 11 cohort back into our wonderful 6th form provision in September and wish all others the best of luck in their future endeavours.’’

Mr Meadway also added that a small number of 6th form places at the school remained for a September 2026 start and encouraged any student considering the next steps on their educational journey to come and have a look at Southfield’s bespoke 6th form provision and the wide array of courses on offer.

Oxford places, apprenticeships and plenty of well-earned celebrations as Southfield students collect their A-Level results

It was a celebratory morning at Southfield School, as students collected their A-Level results and looked ahead to the exciting next steps they have worked so hard for.

Top grades were secured in the majority of subjects, with a strong range of the very highest grades achieved across the school as a whole.

These results have led to students securing places at the University of Oxford and leading Russell Group universities, while others are taking up apprenticeships, combining paid work with professional training.

The range of subjects this year group will go on to study is considerable. One student is off to study Astrophysics, while another has a place in Fine Art. A number have chosen Healthcare and Medical fields, as well as Film and Creative Media. Several are going on to teach, continuing a sustained legacy of Southfield students working in education. There is also a strong contingent heading into Business and Marketing, one of the school’s consistently high-performing areas for some time.

Headteacher Chris Meadway said:
"I am delighted for them. What I keep coming back to is not just the grades on the page, but where those grades have taken them. These results belong to the students. They worked hard for them, they stuck at it and are going on to do the things they set out to do. I have always believed every child has a right to an education that gives them the best life chances, and that means more than exams. Whether a student is off to Oxford, to study Fine Art or starting an apprenticeship, they chose it and they earned it. I wish all of them the very best."

The results are the last Adam Barratt will oversee as Head of Sixth Form. He leaves Southfield this summer for the next stage of his career and his life. Adam commented:

"I have loved working with this year group, and I will miss them.
"Days like today come from the relationship between students and staff and nothing else. You get to know them, you support and encourage them, and they achieve great things. I am leaving knowing they are ready for what comes next, and I am very proud to have been a part of that."

Mr Meadway was keen to recognise the role of staff in supporting students throughout their time at Southfield Sixth.
“Our teachers and support staff give so much of their time and energy to helping students succeed. The students do the work, but they don’t do it on their own and seeing them achieve today is a proud moment for staff too.”

We are thinking of our Year 11 students as well, who receive their GCSE results next week.
“We wish them the very best and will be delighted to welcome many back into Sixth Form in September, alongside students from other schools considering joining us."
