Know an inspirational person who helps care for and protect the Lake District?

Now is your chance to get their dedication nationally recognised by nominating them for an award!

Campaign for National Parks would like to thank the people who help keep our National Parks beautiful, accessible and thriving for wildlife and communities.

There are four awards up for grabs. We’d love to see nominations for individuals or groups who care for the Lake District’s wildlife and natural landscapes — people like nature-friendly farmers, sustainable land managers, habitat restorers, cultural heritage protectors, and access and representation champions.

There is also an award on offer for volunteers, campaigners and professionals under 35 who have gone above and beyond to protect their National Park for the future.

Nominations are open now till 12 July. Learn more and nominate at https://ow.ly/tECZ50Zb7zJ

Stop!🛑Did you know you can find a list of route closures in the Lake District on our website?

Temporary route closures, like those currently affecting some roads in West Cumbria due to Electricity North West network upgrades, enable important works to be carried out, or are put in place to keep the public safe. But not knowing about these in advance can affect your travel and throw off your plans.

Closures to roads, footpaths and bridleways across the Lake District are managed by a range of partners and local authorities, including key utility providers and councils. Information about closures in the Lake District is collected on our Rights of Way webpages.

Did you catch the news on our new Miles without Stiles routes? Take a look behind the scenes of how these paths came to be with these photos taken during the process.

The five new routes, which now have Miles without Stiles accessibility status, are the Jubilee Walk in Grasmere, Ridding Wood and Millwood Trail in Grizedale Forest, Revelin Moss in Whinlatter Forest and Howrah’s Path, which runs from Keswick to Portinscale.

Two other Miles without Stiles routes have also been extended, a route at Loweswater and the Swirls Trail route at Thirlmere. Be sure to give these routes a go and share any photos you take along the way.

What is listed building surveying in the Lake District and why does it matter? Listen to Michael Swords, an accredited architect, explain what a listed building survey is and why it is important.

The Lake District National Park Authority has been working with Michael Swords Studio to survey the condition of more than 2,000 listed buildings across the National Park. This work will capture the built heritage of the Lake District and help ensure it lasts for future generations. By inspecting the structures to identify where conservation work is necessary, actions can be created to repair and maintain the structures for years to come.
