🌟 Celebrating extraordinary courage and selflessness🌟

Bedford resident Dr Eli Prior received the Special Recognition award at The Pride of Britain Awards after helping fellow passengers following the train collision near Bedford on 19 June, despite being injured herself.

Firefighter Millie from Bedford Community Fire Station was the first emergency responder to reach Eli’s carriage, where they worked side by side to treat casualties and reassure passengers. Millie was invited to join Eli and her family at the awards ceremony, describing it as a “special and emotional” evening.

She said: “Having met Eli that afternoon under such difficult circumstances, it made seeing her recognised even more meaningful. Despite being off duty, she didn’t hesitate to help those around her.

“It’s been a real pleasure getting to know Eli and her family since that day. She is such a humble, kind and selfless person, and I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving. It was a privilege to celebrate her alongside so many other inspirational award winners.”

Congratulations to Eli and all the inspirational award recipients! 💜

An unusual rescue for Kempston Community Fire Station Green Watch earlier this week, complete with an unexpected guest in the background! 🦊 🐴

The crew helped free a fox that had become stuck in the netting of a football goalpost, using small tools to carefully release it.

If you come across an injured, trapped or distressed animal, please contact the RSPCA or your local wildlife rescue centre for advice. Every animal rescue is assessed individually to ensure the most appropriate response.

Don't look down!🫣

Firefighters from Bedford Community Fire Station took part in a training exercise with Bedfordshire Police last Friday.

The training involved talking to people in crisis, with this particular scenario using an aerial platform to reach someone at height.

Thank you to Frontier Agriculture in Sandy for allowing our firefighters to use its site for this vital training.

Yesterday, Bedford Community Fire Station and Kempston Community Fire Station Red Watch were joined by crews from Olney and Broughton fire stations from Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service for a training exercise at Cranfield University.

Working alongside neighbouring fire and rescue services helps us strengthen the skills, knowledge and relationships that are vital when responding to incidents across our borders.

A great opportunity to train, learn and work together 🚒

Their training involves talking to people in crisis and you may see people at height, so please do not be alarmed.

A huge congratulations to Watch Manager Cadet Tulah Nixon who has been selected as Bedfordshire Lieutenancy's Fire Cadet for 2026/27, representing Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service 👏

Tulah, from Sandy Fire Cadets, was chosen in recognition of her outstanding commitment, positive attitude and enthusiasm.

In her new role, she will have the opportunity to support His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant Mrs Susan Lousada at civic ceremonies, commemorative events and community occasions throughout the coming year.

We look forward to seeing what she can achieve in this well-deserved post 🫡🚒
