This is excellent news for Kelso residents and of course our wonderful visitors to our Town.

Thank you to Historic Environment Scotland and all those involved.

I have just returned from an open gathering within the grounds of Kelso Abbey, where Historic Environment Scotland have been carrying out surveys and remedial works. They have been dealing with the more pressing repairs first, all of which have been successful.

H.E.S have gave an indication that will be fully opened to the public by the end of July this year.

There are still some works to complete between now and then, however we are incredibly grateful to all those who have been involved over the last few years since the Abbey closed and the works more recently.

Access to areas within are intended to be the same as before the closure.

Kelso Civic Week

Kelso’s longstanding Civic Week tradition has been going strong since 1937, and takes place this year from the 11th to 18th July.

Each year Kelso select a representative for the town, known as the Kelso Laddie, who carries the flag at the front of the calvacade as they ride out to the boundary line between Scotland and England- known locally as the Yetholm rideout. The role of Kelso Laddie carries great honour, and is a much anticipated event each year as the town awaits the declaration of who has been selected.

This year’s honour of Kelso Laddie goes to Chad Patterson, who will fly the flag for Kelso throughout many events leading up to and during Civic Week itself.

So if you plan to visit Kelso during Civic Week, make sure to give Chad a “hip hip” as he rides past! 🐎 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

As Scotland’s oldest cricket club, Kelso Cricket Club is a remarkable part of the town’s rich heritage. Established in 1821, the club has been at the heart of community life for more than two centuries, adding yet another layer to Kelso’s fascinating history.

Visitors can enjoy watching matches playing out at Shedden Park throughout the Summer months, with refreshments being served from the clubhouse bar at the edge of the pitch. The perfect way to spend a Summer’s afternoon! 🥂 🍓
