đź’› Loneliness Awareness Week đź’›- Supporting the Marmalade Trust

This week is a reminder that loneliness can affect anyone, at any stage of life. It’s often invisible, but its impact is very real.

For many people, something as simple as a friendly face, a warm meal, and a quick chat can make all the difference. That’s why services like meals on wheels are so important. Our Community Team Members don’t just deliver food, they bring connection, kindness, and a sense of being remembered.

If you or someone you know could benefit from a little extra support, don’t hesitate to reach out. And if you’re able, even a small act like a phone call, a visit, or checking in on a neighbour this can help someone feel less alone.

Men's Health Week is dedicated to raising awareness about preventable physical and mental health issues affecting boys and men. Occurring in the week leading up to Father’s Day, it aims to dismantle taboos, encourage early medical detection, and promote longer, healthier lives.

Early Detection: Men are statistically less likely to visit a GP or participate in health screenings. By having an routine "MOT" check-up for issues like prostate cancer and high blood pressure these can be detected earlier saving more lives. If your worried about your health never feel embarrassed to reach out to a GP to discuss your concerns.

Break Mental Health Stigmas: The campaign strongly focuses on mental health awareness, encouraging men to open up about stress, anxiety, and depression. and getting the support they need through signposting and providing men only spaces like men sheds and mental health support groups.

Lifestyle Changes: Men on average have a shorter life expectancy than women by making some simple health changes this could increase anyone life expectancy. Simple changes like exercising more, having a balanced diet and drinking less alcohol could have a huge impact on your general health.

**Carers Week** today Rachel supported Carers Support West Sussex with their “Getting ready for Winter” event to help unpaid carers find out what support is available for them to plan support provisions with confidence.

There were lots of services in attendance including the PAT team, Citizens Advice, RVS, Age UK and more! Rachel spoke to some carers where cooking has become unmanageable now and the need to have support during times of being poorly or overwhelmed with their caring role will help them manage their own wellbeing.

It also provides carers with peace of mind that an extra pair of eyes are visiting their loved ones when they are not there.

It’s Carers Week, and we had the pleasure of attending CareFest at one of the libraries in Hertfordshire today.
It was a fantastic event bringing together carers, support services, and the community - highlighting the incredible work that carers do every single day.
A big thank you to everyone involved in organising these events across Hertfordshire’s libraries. It’s so important to create spaces where carers feel supported, valued, and connected.
