Did you know that the Scottish Childminding Association is holding online information sessions for anyone interested in becoming a childminder? You can attend a free, online ‘Discover Childminding’ session to find out more about becoming a childminder and the support available to get started.

PLUS North Ayrshire Council provide an additional £750 grant for unemployed and employed parents seeking to become childminders (subject to eligibility).

What will be covered?

⭐Information about the fantastic package available to get started, including one-to-one support from a dedicated SCMA Workforce Officer, free online training and a minimum £750 business start-up grant.

Children and young people across North Ayrshire are benefiting from targeted support to help them succeed in school thanks to more than £4 million of Pupil Equity Funding (PEF).

A report considered by Cabinet highlighted how schools are using the Scottish Government funding to improve literacy, numeracy, attendance, health and wellbeing, while reducing the impact of poverty.

The funding supports a wide range of initiatives including additional teaching and support staff, targeted interventions, nurture programmes, breakfast clubs, family learning activities and support with the cost of the school day.

Around £4.2million of Pupil Equity Funding was invested during the 2025/26 academic year with a similar amount to be invested in the coming school year.

Become a Children's Hearings Scotland panel member 🌟

Children’s Hearings Scotland (CHS) are looking for enthusiastic, empathetic volunteers to become panel members.

The role involves listening and making legal decisions with, and for children and young people, in children’s hearings, ensuring they’re at the heart of every decision.

➡ Applications are open from Wednesday 26 August until midnight on Wednesday 23 September.

If selected, panel members will take part in the CHS dedicated Learning Academy which will equip you with the skills and knowledge to fulfil the role. The course is delivered through a mix of in-person and online events.

📆CHS is running a virtual information session for those that would like to learn more about the role and training: Thursday 17th September 12:30-13:15pm.

📣 A new Robert Burns Garden has been unveiled at Eglinton Country Park to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the formation of the Irvine Burns Club 🎉🌹

Located within the courtyard at Eglinton Country Park alongside North Ayrshire Heritage and Cultural Services, the garden has been inspired by the life and words of Scotland’s National Bard and contains flowers and plants that Burns refers to in his poetry and songs 👇

The official opening was held on 30 August and guests included the Earl and Countess of Eglinton, members of Irvine Burns Club, North Ayrshire Council Provost Anthea Dickson, the Marymass Royal Party, Patricia Gibson MSP, Elected Members, Officers of North Ayrshire Council and representatives from Burns clubs across North Ayrshire.

Guests were entertained by performances from the North Ayrshire Senior Schools Strings Orchestra and singer David Douglas.

The guests were then treated to a poetry reading by Greenwood Academy pupils Riley McClory and Johnny Cripps who depicted Robert Burns and Captain Richard Brown, an Irvine born sailor who is credited as being the person who, when walking with Burns through Eglinton Woods, advised him that he should publish his poetry.

So how did the beautiful new heritage garden come about?

North Ayrshire Provost, Anthea Dickson explains: “On 2nd June 1826 twelve men, eleven of whom personally knew Robert Burns, met and agreed that Irvine should honour the poet who had once lived in their town. On that night, the Irvine Burns Club was founded.

“200 years later, North Ayrshire Council are delighted to have partnered with Irvine Burns Club to create the Robert Burns Garden to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Club.

"It has been a privilege to have been part of the official opening of this inspiring community garden established to reconnect visitors and local people alike to the legacy of our National Bard, Robert Burns.

"Thank you to everyone involved in this project that will further enrich the heritage and vibrancy that our local country park has to offer. Special thanks to Donald Wilson of Irvine Burns Club who gave up so much of his time to sourcing, planting and creating this garden."

More than 6,100 people have taken part in a public consultation that was launched to gather feedback from residents on North Ayrshire Council’s recent implementation of the National 20mph speed limit Strategy.

The online survey, titled North Ayrshire Council 20mph Public Consultation, ran from 1 July 1 to 26 August to allow residents across all six localities to have their say.

The Scottish Government has committed to working with local authorities to reduce the speed limit in our towns, cities and villages to 20mph where appropriate.

The driving force behind the change is to improve safety – with evidence showing when a vehicle collides with a pedestrian at 30mph, they are seven times more likely to die than at 20mph.
