This year the sector will focus on how our homes are supporting good health and what more could be done to make sure that everyone has a home that enables health and wellbeing.

From 1st August new powers will come into force to protect domestic abuse survivors.

Under the Domestic Abuse (Protection) (Scotland) Act 2021, social landlords will now be empowered to apply directly to the courts to end a perpetrator's tenancy rights and transfer the home securely to the victim.

North Ayrshire Council recognises the significant impact domestic abuse has on individuals, children and families. As both a local authority and social landlord, we are committed to supporting victims and taking appropriate action against those who perpetrate abuse.

More than 600 responses from residents, businesses and prospective islanders have helped create the most comprehensive picture to date of housing need and demand on Arran.

The Arran Housing Taskforce survey received 624 responses, including 464 from Arran households, representing more than one in five households across the island. The findings provide valuable insight into the housing needs of local communities, businesses and future generations.

The survey, commissioned by the Arran Housing Taskforce and led by North Ayrshire Council on behalf of its partners, aimed to build a detailed understanding of current and future housing requirements across the island.

The report concludes that the survey successfully achieved its aim and has created a robust evidence base to support future housing planning and investment decisions.

📢National Tenant Participation 'State of Play' Project

The project, State of Play, is exploring how tenant participation is currently working across Scotland’s social housing sector, at a time when the context for tenant participation continues to evolve. It looks at how participation is experienced by tenants and delivered by social landlords, what has changed in recent years, and what effective participation needs to look like going forward.

As part of the research, Tenants Information Service have launched:

💠a survey for social landlords (local authorities, housing associations and social housing co‑operatives), and

💠a tenant survey open to tenants and people who receive services from social landlords.

Tenants Information Service is keen to reach a wide and diverse range of voices, and would really value your help in sharing information about the research with relevant social landlords, tenants, or organisations that support or work closely with them.

• are engaged with and referred by North Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership, NHS Ayrshire & Arran or North Ayrshire Council services, or third sector agencies such as foodbanks, Citrus or Women’s Aid
• have dependent children or are pregnant
• have a disability
• are carers
• are from a minority ethnic background

We offer services by phone, video call, in person and, in some circumstances, in your own home.
