“Every child should celebrate their birthday. They should have cake, and cards and do something fun.”

Most people get a birthday cake, cards and presents as part of their everyday family life. Gary and his wife fostered two young children who couldn’t believe it when they asked them what they wanted to do for their birthday.

Something so normal to everyone in Gary’s family had never been offered to these little ones. They were so excited.

Could your family foster? We’re looking for everyday people, living everyday lives who’ve got room and love to give a child in care. Your local council works hard to match foster children with the right family so that children in care can thrive.

Today is National Photography Day! 📸

A good chance to remind our fostering families that we're running a photography competition at the moment titled 'The Wonders of Nature' which invites those between 4-18 years old to submit photos that 'capture the magic, mystery and beauty of the natural world'. 🐛 🍃

Details can be found in our fortnightly newsletter or speak to your SSW! We can't wait to see the entries - competition closes on September 4th.

While it can be a time of mixed emotions, it can also be an opportunity to make a lasting difference in a young person's life.

A new 2-day course has been uploaded to CPD and is aimed at Foster Carers, Special Guardians and Adopters who support children living with them who are presenting behaviours that may be perceived to be difficult, disruptive and at times dangerous [the umbrella term ‘challenging behaviour’ is often used].

👉Day 1: Will provide carers with the knowledge and skills they need to prevent or reduce the likelihood of situations developing, focussing on de-escalation strategies and interpersonal skills to keep themselves and others safe.

👉Day 2: Will be delivered face to face and go on to examine how to respond safely, effectively and lawfully to those situations, which despite carer’s best endeavours, escalate. It will include some physical skills that may be used as a last resort and act within organisational policy and the legal framework at all times.
