We were saddened to hear of the passing of Dolly Parton. While she will be remembered by many for her extraordinary music career, her impact extended far beyond the stage. Through her Imagination Library programme, Dolly helped inspire a love of reading in children around the world, gifting more than 300 million books and championing literacy for generations.

Dolly understood the life-changing power of books and spent her life advocating for access to reading and learning opportunities for all.

For those who would like to learn more about the history and impact of Dolly's Imagination Library, The Library That Dolly Built is available to watch free on Kanopy, our library streaming service.

Today we're taking a moment to celebrate Dolly Parton and her amazing work to champion children's literacy

“Inspiring kids to love to read became my mission. In the beginning, my hope was simply to inspire the children in my home county but here we are today with a worldwide program that gives a book a month to millions of children."
- Dolly Parton 🦋🦋🦋
