After this year's Tour of Britain concluded in Earlston in the Scottish Borders this past weekend, there was no doubt that the name that couldn’t be missed after five days of racing was 20-year-old Elliot Rowe from Durris near Banchory.

Riding for the Great Britain Team, Elliot was present at the front of the race across all five stages as the peloton made its way from Lincoln to the finish in Scotland, and none more so than on that final stage when he attacked some of the best riders in the world on the climb of Redstone Rig. Whilst he was caught before the summit he maintained that visible presence amongst the front groups until the stage finish, where he was confirmed as the Leading Young Rider securing the White jersey for that category, which he had held since Stage 1.

Elliot’s progression and performances over the past two years with his trade team Visma- Lease a Bike Development, comes as no surprise to those who have been watching him race from a young age and Cycle Aberdeenshire ensured that his growing talent, along with several other Aberdeenshire riders, was at the fore of our Tour of Britain film “West to Glenshee” in 2022, where a 16 year old Elliot made light work of the climb to the ski centre at Cairnwell resplendent in his British U16 Champions jersey https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XRY_HrnGSM

Now four years later, everyone at Live Life Aberdeenshire and Aberdeenshire Council would like to congratulate Elliot on an outstanding performance in this years Tour of Britain and we now look forward to watching him race at the forthcoming UCI Under 23 World Championships Road Race in Montreal, Canada on Friday 25th September.

🚴‍♀️🎉What a first day as Elliot secured the White Jersey as the best young rider overall after the opening stage!!🎉🚴‍♀️

Aberdeenshire cyclist and our Tour of Britain “Legacy Routes” Ambassador Elliot Rowe (Team Visma-Lease a bike) made his debut today in the Lloyds Tour of Britain as part of a strong Great Britain Team.

Stage 1 started in Lincoln and the race will make its way to Scotland over the next few days before a tough finish in the Borders on Sunday. With Stonehaven’s Arabella Blackburn (Handsling Alba Development Road Team) having competed in her first Women’s Tour of Britain last month, it means that 2026 will have seen both of our “Legacy Routes” Ambassadors making their respective debuts in the biggest races in the UK.

Please see the information from British Cycling for details of the stages and live TV coverage

Over the past five weeks, we've shared stories that highlight the positive impact Live Life Aberdeenshire has within communities across Aberdeenshire.

From supporting people to remain connected through our Doorstep Delivery Service, to creating opportunities through social groups, ASN swimming, Active Schools volunteering and outdoor experiences, each story reflects the same commitment: helping people live healthier, happier and more connected lives.

These five videos, presented over the last few weeks, showcase the incredible individuals, volunteers, participants, and staff who make our services so valuable to the communities we serve.

Thank you to everyone who shared their stories and helped celebrate the difference these services make every day.
