We’ve divided our top raised bed in to four sections we’re using it for a four year crop rotation. Crop rotation is the practice of changing where you grow different types of vegetables each year. Instead of planting the same crop in the same bed you move them around in a planned sequence. The benefits are healthier plants, bigger crops healthy soil, less weeds and is a natural pest and disease control. It also acts as a natural fertiliser. So in our four sections we’ve planted legumes, which are Dwarf Beans, Broad Beans and peas. In the next section we’ve planted Brassicas which are Broccoli, Tuscan kale, Curly Kale, Brussels Sprouts and Cauliflower. The next section will be fruiting vegetables so far we’ve put in Tomatoes and Sweetcorn and in the last section we’ve planted Root vegetables and Alliums which are Radish, Leeks, Carrots, Beetroot and Spring Onions. We’ve also protected the raised bed with mesh to keep our friendly pigeons out. A lot to take in folks but we’ll keep you posted. 🌿
