If youβre in the Alness area, you may have noticed the large black cloud of smoke today.
Incidents like this highlight one of the biggest hazards in our line of work β lithium batteries.
These batteries are commonly found in everyday items like phones, vapes, and small electrical equipment. If damaged or disposed of incorrectly, they can cause serious fires and pose a real risk to people, property, and waste management teams, especially during collection and processing.
At ILM Highland, we see these dangers first-hand.
Thatβs why itβs so important to separate lithium batteries from small appliances when visiting Household Waste Recycling Centres.
Please ensure batteries are recycled safely at ILM Alness or your local Highland Council recycling centre.
On this occasion, weβd also like to extend our sincere thanks to the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service for their swift response.
Letβs all do our part to keep our communities and teams safe.
