♻️ Recycle Week Day 1 – Monday 14 September♻️

Recycle Week starts today! It's a celebration of recycling across the nation, helping everybody to recycle more of the right things, more often.

💚 Let's kick off Recycle Week with 4 reasons why it's worth recycling.

♻️Recycling saves a lot of energy compared to making new materials. Recycling a plastic bottle like a shampoo bottle uses just 12% of the energy needed to make it from scratch.

♻️Recycling just one single yoghurt pot saves enough energy to fully charge your phone. Think how much energy is stored in all the plastic in your home!

♻️Recycling stops greenhouse gases like methane going into the atmosphere. Recycling organic waste, like inedible food waste or toilet roll tubes, helps capture the methane they produce as they break down.

♻️Recycling helps keep valuable materials in circulation, which can help support the UK economy.

Today Mayor of Erewash, Councillor Greg Maskalick will be stopping by the bandstand at West Park in Long Eaton to cheer on the 1st Sawley Scouts.

The scouts will be there from 10am today until 10am on Sunday 13 September to get an idea of what experiencing homelessness is like.

The Mayor has been keen to show his support as the Canaan Trust is one of two charities he's raising money for this year, working to highlight the cause and help the homeless.

The event will be opened by the Mayor of Erewash, Councillor Greg Maskalick. Entry is free and all are welcome to visit this Sunday, 13 September from 12pm to 3pm. The day is packed with activities, and military displays so don’t miss out.

Hundreds of dumped disposable fuel pump gloves were recently cleared up by dedicated members of the Mess Collectors around what used to be a recycling area at the Asda superstore in Long Eaton.

The local volunteer litter picking group was initially set up with just a handful of regulars but now boasts around 1,000 volunteers of all ages and backgrounds.

Members are encouraged to take responsibility for individual roads or stretches of pavement often close to where they live, and commit to keeping these areas pristine as part of their successful ‘adopt a street’ approach.

Thank you for keeping the area tidy and helping to care for our local environment!
