One Ilfracombe

One Ilfracombe One Ilfracombe is about believing that more can be accomplished by working together as a team, than can be achieved separately.

One Ilfracombe is about everyone: our residents, our councils, emergency services, social housing, the Jobcentre, health services and businesses working together as a team. This new way of working puts the community of Ilfracombe at the heart of decision-making by giving them the opportunity to influence how services are delivered in a way that suits local people better. It recognises that the 'on

e size fits all' approach is neither the most effective nor automatically the most efficient way of working. The people of Ilfracombe know what's best for our town.

We really do have some amazing young people in our town!

To continue Volunteers Week Coral, another of Ilfracombe’s younger volunteers, talked to us about why she began volunteering and how it has benefitted her;

‘I decided to begin volunteering because I had been going to Scouts since I was 6 and felt that it had a major impact on my life! The support and evenings run by the volunteers helped to shape me into the person I am today, and I wanted to do the same for young people in my community. Through volunteering, I have experienced benefits such as an improved confidence working with and around children and other people. As well as this, I have learned to be better at time keeping (e.g. through running activities during our weekly sessions), which was something I struggled with prior to volunteering.’

If you have any questions or want to find out more about the wide variety of volunteer roles Ilfracombe has to offer, pop into the Ilfracombe Centre (open Tues - Fri) and chat to our Community Officer.

Volunteers' Week, celebrated annually from 1st to 7th June, was launched in 1984 to recognise and highlight the wonderful work volunteers do in their community and to say thank you.
