There is a big misconception that badgers predate hedgehogs as a main part of their diet and are a factor in the loss of hedgehogs across England and Wales.

This is false.

The British Hedgehog Preservation Society have mapped out their new strategy to tackle the 6 key threats to hedgehogs. None of which are badgers.

The key threats identified are:

🦔Decrease in the availability and distribution of natural food and associated habitat
🦔Increased vehicle collisions
🦔Unintentional mortality and stress due to human intervention
🦔Accidental death and misadventure
🦔Toxin accumulation
🦔Genetic isolation

A gap in a fence, access to clean, fresh water, or a wild corner left untouched — these simple changes can help hedgehogs find food, shelter, and safe routes through our neighbourhoods.
