Hello everyone 👋

We know that some of you will be looking forward to the 4-day Bank Holiday this weekend 🏖️

Believe it or not, it's meant to be sunny! ☀️

BUT we wanted to share some safety tips with you ahead of the weekend.👮👮🏻‍♀️

📱 Look after your valuables, (and most of all, keep all those mobiles safe – don’t be tempted to stick them in your back pocket)!
🍹 If you're off out galavanting, make sure you drink safely, nobody likes a show-off!
🚕 Plan your journey home - taxis may be busy… so get planning!
❌ Using the Bank Holiday to commit anti-social behaviour or offences will certainly not be tolerated. Our officers will be out and about to keep everyone safe! 🚔 👮🏼
☎️ Our Control room will be really busy, and our operators will be working as hard as they can to answer calls. But please help them by calling 999 only in an emergency and dialling 101 if it really is a police matter.
❗ If you’re unsure what an emergency is and when you should call 999, take a look on our website here - https://orlo.uk/2zpuj
🖥️ You will be pleased to know, you can also use our online reporting form to report non-emergency incidents via this link - https://orlo.uk/EAL3e

Most importantly, we hope you have a great time! 🙌

Always call 999 if the crime is being committed now, the offender is nearby, or if you or other people are injured or in danger.

Our Mini Police scheme is back... 🙌🏻

Police from West Division have relaunched the ‘Mini Police’ initiative. 👮🏻‍♀️

West Division, which covers the areas of Blackpool, Fylde, Wyre, Lancaster and Morecambe, took part in the scheme when it was initially launched in early 2020. However, the Covid-19 pandemic meant that all activities had to be put on hold.

Mini Police allows local primary school children, aged between four and 11, to learn more about policing, new skills and take part in numerous fun-filled activities. Sessions will be held at both local schools and Hutton HQ.

The scheme will run for 12 weeks, focusing on a different policing theme each week such as the Dog Unit, CSI and Neighbourhood Policing. 👮🐶🔍

Neighbourhood Police Inspector for Blackpool, Inspector Jon Campbell-Smith, said: “We are really excited to be re-launching Mini Police in West Division after a three-year hiatus.

“The scheme is all about community and youth engagement, which is so important to the work that our Neighbourhood Policing teams do, day-in day-out.

“Mini Police allows youngsters in our communities to gain an insight into how policing works and the huge variety of teams we have. We hope it helps to build trust with the future generation.

“We are launching a trial period, in which two schools have been selected to take part in the scheme. We are planning to expand and develop in the future”.

Chief Superintendent Karen Edwards said: “I am proud to support the re-launch of Mini Police in West Division.

“This community-led initiative allows us to engage with both children and parents and give young people a chance to experience some exciting aspects of policing.

“I am looking forward to seeing how our Mini Police scheme progresses and how it develops throughout West Division.”

Good morning 🚔

As the evenings are getting slightly lighter, we wanted to remind people not to become complacent when it comes to securing your property.

Don’t make yourself an easy target for thieves who walk the streets looking for opportunities.

So, what can you do to make it difficult for opportunistic thieves?
👉 Close and lock your doors and windows when you go out, even if you are just in the garden. Check doors and windows before going to bed.
👉 Always use good quality padlocks with covers on all outbuildings so they cannot be easily cut off.
👉Make sure side gates/sheds/garages are locked and keep boundary fences, walls and gates in good repair.
👉Install security lighting and / or CCTV cameras around your property where possible; they are a great deterrent.
👉 Don’t leave the keys where they can be seen or reached through the letter box.
👉Always lock your car and don’t leave things like shopping bags on display.
👉Never leave your engine running, especially in frosty weather, car thieves know that people do this.

Ever walked alone along a street that doesn't feel safe? 👀

Lancashire Constabulary are supporting the Government's new StreetSafe tool, where you can anonymously pinpoint on a map, any areas you feel uneasy or unsafe in, regardless of whether a crime has taken place 📍

Anyone who has concerns about a particular location is encouraged to flag it through the tool.

This means that we'll be able to identify areas of the county that need improving to make the streets safer for everyone. 🚔 👮🏻‍♂️

We want to tell you about Operation Grip… 🚨

Operation Grip is led by the Lancashire Violence Reduction Network (VRN) and delivers a huge range of education, community engagement and enforcement activity all centred around knife crime. The aim? You guessed it - to reduce and prevent knife and violent crime across Lancashire.

So how do they go about it? Lancashire is a large area, after all.

The VRN works alongside local neighbourhood policing teams, and they identified 20 hotspot areas across Lancashire based on recorded homicide, r**e and violence with injury. These areas became the focus for increased policing activity on a randomised patrol schedule. Seven hotspots were identified for West division which covers the areas of Blackpool, Fylde, Wyre, Lancaster and Morecambe.

Operational activity includes foot patrols at these key hotspots, interacting with groups and providing a visible presence of uniformed officers. Officers also conduct intelligence led disruption visits, vehicle stops and stop searches.

Within the hotspot areas, from October to December 2022 (compared to the same time period in 2021)… there was…
👉 an average of 12% reduction in crime
👉 an average of 24% decrease in serious violence

Sergeant Dan Whitaker, who is based within the VRN, said: “Our mission at Lancashire Violence Reduction Network has four strands – prevention, enforcement, evidence, and culture.

“Prevention and early intervention are at the heart of what we do, and these fantastic results for the West division of our county reflect just that.

“A lot of our work is supported by our partners and community links, who we work with closely to achieve the best possible outcome for victims and prevent future crimes and incidents within our communities.

“We promote a learning culture and will continue to do so within our future work and hope to see more results like this going forward.”

Would your child like to become a police officer for the day? 👮

As part of the national Neighbourhood Policing Week, Blackpool Police are launching an exciting opportunity for young people of primary school age in the local community to experience what it is like to be a police officer.

Operation Roleplay Day will see The Grange on Bathurst Avenue turn into a police station, run by Blackpool Police Cadets. The ‘station’ will have a number of activities available for children, who will be issued their own warrant card and uniform upon arrival.

Three different locations in the local area will be set up as task bases, where the little ones will get the chance to solve different crimes. Other initiatives, such as bike coding, will be available on the day.
Inspector Jon Campbell-Smith said:

“Neighbourhood policing is such a key part of our Constabulary and allows us to really get to know our communities and what matters the most to them.

“Community engagement is really important to us, so hosting an event such as this one is a great way for us to meet our residents. What’s more is children in the local community can experience some exciting aspects of policing, whilst learning new skills along the way.

“I encourage anyone who can attend to come along and meet your local team.”

Op Roleplay Day will take place on Saturday 28th January 2023, at The Grange, Bathurst Avenue, Blackpool, FY3 7RW from 12pm to 4pm.
