🌾 National Rural Crime Action Week: Local Teams, Local Knowledge

Today’s theme is Local Rural Crime Teams and Community Confidence.

Cambridgeshire Police’s Rural Crime Action Team works across the county, using specialist knowledge and information from farmers, landowners, businesses and residents to help prevent crime, identify offenders and protect rural communities.

Our officers carry out intelligence-led patrols, provide crime prevention advice and work with neighbouring police forces and partner organisations to tackle offenders operating across county borders.

A visible and approachable rural crime team helps build confidence, but we cannot do it alone. Reports from the public help us understand what is happening, identify emerging problems and target our resources effectively.

🚜 National Rural Crime Week: Serious and Organised Crime

Rural crime is not always opportunistic or low-level. Organised criminals often travel across county borders, targeting agricultural machinery, GPS equipment, vehicles and isolated rural businesses.

Throughout National Rural Crime Week, Cambridgeshire Police’s Rural Crime Action Team is highlighting how intelligence-led policing, specialist operations and partnership working are used to identify offenders, recover stolen property and disrupt the criminal networks operating in our countryside.

Criminals do not recognise county borders, so neither does our response.

If you see suspicious activity, report it. Your information could provide the missing piece needed to disrupt serious and organised crime.

This week, Cambridgeshire Police’s Rural Crime Action Team (RCAT) will be highlighting the crimes affecting our countryside and the work being done to protect rural communities, businesses, and livelihoods.

Rural crime is not always visible, but its impact can be significant. That is why our specialist officers work alongside communities, neighbouring police forces and partner agencies to prevent crime, develop intelligence and target offenders.

Follow us throughout the week for operational updates, prevention advice and an insight into rural policing across Cambridgeshire.

Congratulations to the ten men and women who officially became police community support officers (PCSOs) today. 👮👏

Having previously worked in a range of roles including in the NHS, Network Rail, or as a tutor, these individuals are ready to get involved in listening to your concerns and keeping our communities safe.

They were presented with their “designation cards” by Deputy Chief Constable Chris Balmer at a ceremony at force HQ this afternoon and will shortly be joining our neighbourhood teams across the county.

If you see them on patrol in your area, do stop and say hi! 😁👋

🚓 Your Neighbourhood officers have been attending the last of the summer events this past week!

Officers carried out patrols in the town centre and Riverside Park during the fair and car show, engaging with visitors and helping ensure everyone could enjoy the events safely. The team also visited Paines Mill Hostel to meet with residents and staff.

Despite the pouring rain, officers were pleased to attend RAF Wyton Families’ Day, which saw a fantastic turnout and provided a great opportunity to chat with families and members of the local community.

Kenan Samuel, 28, has been jailed for five years after he filmed himself sexually assaulting a woman while she slept.

After the victim reported Samuel to the police, his phone was seized and it was discovered Samuel had also sent himself a n**e photograph of the victim from her phone without her permission.

This is James Upton, 26, who has been recently jailed after he attacked his former partner and continually breached a restraining order.

Upton breached his restraining order by making multiple attempts to contact the victim by phone and turned up at her house on different occasions.

During one of those visits, Upton pushed the victim to the floor, biting her, and kicking her in the stomach. He was arrested and charged with ABH and four counts of harassment - breach of restraining order, which he admitted.

What's that in the sky? A plane or a bird?

Nope... it's a police drone.

Our officers are going to be doing some night time drone training in the St Neots and Little Paxton areas throughout September.

If you see some drones in the sky this month, it's more than likely it will be us practising our night flying.

Our drones act as that eye in the sky for our officers on the ground when dealing with calls, especially searching for missing people.
