We have several Biker Down courses taking place at fire stations across the county during the summer months.

The course offers motorcyclists the opportunity to learn practical skills to help avoid being involved in a crash, as well as essential first-aid training and advice on what to do should they find themselves first on the scene of a crash where someone is injured.

If you would like to attend the course, please send an email to [email protected] with your full name, contact number and location.

Course locations, dates and times can be found on our website: https://orlo.uk/I0auM

Did you know that mirrors and glass ornaments can be a fire risk? 🤔

Crews from Cambridge attended an incident this morning where a fire started from the sunlight coming through a window onto a magnifying glass, causing it to heat up and ignite.

Thankfully, the fire was spotted early and while there was some damage and smoke, there were no injuries.

With the current warm weather we are having, we would like to remind you how easy it is for a fire to start. Make sure you keep reflective objects away from the window and out of direct sunlight. Keeping doors closed in the home and making sure you have working smoke alarms that are tested regularly, will also help you stay fire safe ✅

🚨 Scam text warning 🚨

We're asking you to be aware of a scam text that is currently circulating.
The scam claims that the fire service will be in your area carrying out visits, and that if you miss the visit you will be fined.
Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service does not send out text messages or hand out fines. Any visit from us would be carried out by a member of the Service in uniform and they would have formal identification on them as well as an official fire service vehicle. We would at no point ask for payment.
Please do avoid engaging with suspicious texts and report any concerns to Cambridgeshire Constabulary on 101.

As temperatures continue to soar across the county, residents are being urged to seriously consider the dangers of swimming in open water.

Having seen tragic incidents across the country already this week, the Service is highlighting the risks associated with entering the water. This warning comes after two similar incidents within the county over the last two years involving young people, both with tragic consequences.

Residents are being reminded of the dangers of cooling off in open water. Many people, particularly those unfamiliar with outdoor swimming, may underestimate hidden risks. Submerged hazards such as shopping trolleys and consistently low water temperatures mean that cold water shock remains a real danger, even on hot days. This can trigger an involuntary gasp, rapid breathing, panic, and a sudden loss of swimming ability, drastically increasing the risk of drowning.

Group Commander James Ball, head of Community Fire Safety, said: “It can be very tempting to jump into rivers and lakes to cool off when the weather is hot, like it has been this week. However, open water can often be much colder than expected and there can be hidden risks beneath the surface."
