It was exactly this time (3.55pm) when we recently received a 999 call from a woman in Cambridge ☎️

She didn't say anything initially, but after a few prompts from the call handler, she whispered her address and confirmed that she needed police.

After offering reassurance to the woman, she was able to communicate without saying a word, by tapping her keypad and typing through a special link sent to her phone by the operator. 💬

Within fifteen minutes, officers were on scene and able to speak to the woman and the man who was also present separately to gauge what had happened.

Did you know? 💡 If a caller is silent but the call handler is suspicious there could be a genuine emergency they will ask you to dial ‘55’ if you need police. So whether it’s by tapping your phone or coughing, make some noise.

From there our specially trained operators will ask you questions to try and trace you. If you’re still unable to speak, they’ll ask you to tap your phone or cough to answer 📱

Knowing this piece of information could be life-saving if you're ever in a situation where you're in danger and can't speak out loud. 🤫

Many people feel conflicted when they witness a crime, and hope that someone else will be the one to report it. 🤷

But when everybody has that same mindset, the "bystander effect" kicks in, and no-one reports the crime. 🚔

We’ve launched our latest campaign, , to remind people that reporting what you see could be the difference between someone getting help - or going without.

Remember, whether you have a moment of concern, see something suspicious, or witness a crime in progress, you might be the only person who takes action. Your decision to act could stop a crime or catch a criminal.

Reminder! If it's an emergency, call 999. If not, report online or via 101. 📱

If you were a police call handler and you spotted a gap in support for people, what would you do? 👀 📱

For Shauna Wiles, the answer was easy 💡 and she was recently handed a commendation by our Chief Constable Simon Megicks for her work in supporting domestic abuse victims 🏆 🙌

While working in the Force Control Room, call handler Shauna provided vital advice to frontline officers, including safeguarding options and signposting to support services.

Through her work, she identified a significant gap in the emergency support available to domestic abuse victims who may need to leave their home suddenly, often at night and without access to essential personal items or a safe means of communication 🏠 😔

Shauna took it upon herself to develop a solution and drawing inspiration from a local scheme, she proactively sought donations from colleagues and, in her own time, assembled emergency support bags containing toiletries, sanitary products and other essential items.

She personally arranged for these bags to be distributed across stations for officers to provide to victims at the earliest point of contact 🥰

Determined to expand the scheme, Shauna contacted local businesses, securing generous donations from Tesco in Peterborough and the Amazon Peterborough distribution centre.

Their contributions included toiletries, sanitary products, children’s items, and even pre-paid mobile phones to ensure victims could communicate safely and independently. Further support came from colleagues, including handmade soft toys for children 🧸

Shauna has now left policing but thanks to her drive and compassion, these support bags are now in place across the force. Her actions demonstrate outstanding initiative, empathy, and a steadfast commitment to victim care. You can read more stories from our recent awards ceremony here: https://orlo.uk/Awards-News_cbryx

Gregory Coulson, 32, has been jailed for life after murdering his mother, Carmen, at the home he shared with her in February last year.

Coulson, of Lingwood Park, Peterborough, was ordered to serve a minimum tariff of 26 years in prison yesterday at Huntingdon Law Courts.

Detective Inspector Mark Dollard said: “Carmen’s death is a tragedy for the rest of her family, who showed dignity throughout the trial, and my thoughts are with them at this incredibly difficult time."

Last week, we received a call from a woman who was worried about her husband, who had recently been diagnosed with dementia.

The man had been at the doctors when he refused their advice to go to A&E, driving off in his car and leaving his wife behind. 😔

With concerns for his physical health as well as his dementia diagnosis, the woman called us to help find her husband and ensure he was safe.

The man, who was in his 70s, wasn’t answering his phone and shouldn’t have been driving due to his poor health.

Our local officers acted quickly - speaking to staff at nearby pubs and restaurants, talking to people who were walking in the area and checking CCTV, and within an hour, we had two possible sightings of the man.

With a possible location, we utilised the NPAS helicopter and were soon able to locate the man’s car, but it was locked, and the man wasn’t inside. 🤔

After patrolling the area on foot, we found the man near a pond.

Officers were able to talk to the man and offer him support. Eventually he accepted the help and was taken to the hospital to get the care he needed, much to the relief of his wife.

After reuniting the man with his wife, we took the time to speak to her about the Herbert Protocol - a scheme we support that can help find people with dementia if they go missing. 💡

The scheme encourages family and friends to fill out an online form that will help police if a loved one goes missing by collating key pieces of information, such as a physical description, familiar places, health details and an up-to-date photo

We helped the woman fill out our online form, and she was one of 475 people that have done so since it was launched. 👏

We’ve jailed another offender for coercive control, highlighting how serious and harmful this type of abuse is.

Janis Korsaks, 42, of March, was sentenced to two years and two months in prison and handed a seven-year restraining order.

Controlling or coercive behaviour isn’t always obvious at first. It can include being constantly checked on, being isolated from friends or family, having your money controlled, or feeling afraid of how someone might react. These are warning signs of abuse.
