What a ‘blooming’ good day it was today, celebrating National Rose day. Not a thorn among us when this morning, some of our members had a go at making red roses out of paper napkins whilst others engaged in a jovial game of Jenga. The water painting came out, the mosaic by numbers came out and some of us just enjoyed a good old chin-wag. Whilst this was all going on, Jenny was beavering away in the kitchen cooking the jacket potatoes with various fillings and preparing strawberry gateaux for dessert.
Off to the West End we went this afternoon for a sing-along musical session. No rain fell in the community centre but the umbrellas were up in force, the porridge bowls were utilised and a lion cub joined in with the songs. We ‘let everything GO’, we looked for a pot of gold at the end of somewhere, noone got scared of ‘The Phantom’ and we sang about ‘Our favourite things’. Bet you can’t guess which musicals we celebrated? In true volunteer style, there were props, actions and lots of laughter…….if only there was ‘One More Day’ to the week…..

🎶Oh we do like to be beside the seaside, 🎶oh we do like to be beside the sea…………….only we felt it was a bit too far to go so we brought the seaside to the centre! Surely ‘improvise’ should be our middle name!
Our members were met by our gang sunbathing at the Resort de Community Centre in Costa del Warboys. Bikinis were ironed, sun lotion applied and as always, the members were super-surprised by our crazy antics. One staff member wore her coconut bikini and another, her itsy bitsy, teeny weeny, yellow polka dot bikini.
Mini sandcastles were our first mission of the morning and then we made sand tray pictures - we certainly know how to be creative. Hazel and Jenny were judges and Peter won first prize, with Zoe coming a close second.
After some cakes, kindly provided by Sally for her birthday, we started our rock decorating and what a varied group of rocks we ended up with. Lunch today was cooked by Polly and Jenny. Of course no seaside visit could go without an ice-cream and Clare’s mum, provided all the members with a choc-ice. Thanks Keri!
Our entertainer, dressed in her Victorian style bathing suit, sung some ‘beachy’ tunes for us and up we got to dance, wiggle or even ride the merry-go round horses at one point…. thanks Singing Gardener. A couple of the guys even did some fishing and in true style, over-exaggerated the size of their catch. The day ended with our members receiving a gift of a pen each with an inspirational saying on it and of course, they had to have some sweet rock. We would like to say what a pleasure it was to meet some family members that joined their loved ones today and we’d also like to say a huge welcome back to our delightful Bernie, we sure did miss you.
