✨ On Friday the whole team came together at The Media Centre for a Safeguarding training day that's just as important as any session we deliver.

We started with trauma-informed practice, a big thank you to Kelly from West Yorkshire Violence Reduction Partnership, for leading an excellent session looking at the tools and techniques vital in our work.

Following that we looked at safeguarding, and working with neurodiversity, so that we can better deliver sessions with the young people we work with.

The young people we work with often carry difficult experiences with them, and the more our team understands that, the safer and more supportive our sessions can be. So a big thank you to everyone who gave up their Friday to learn, question and challenge each other.

🎧 Sounds Like… The World Cup

As the tournament comes to an end, this month’s Sounds Like turns to the World Cup – not just the official anthems, but the odd, obsessive corners of football culture that music keeps finding its way into. From a Manchester indie classic to post-punk, these are the songs that prove football has always been about more than what happens on the pitch.

🔊 We're delighted to share that Autex Acoustics has donated professional acoustic panels to our Safe Space Studio at The Media Centre in Huddersfield, with timber battens supporting the install generously supplied by Shaw Timber.

The result is a studio with higher-grade soundproofing, and more space for participants to work during sessions. This will support more young people across Huddersfield, Kirklees, and Yorkshire to make music in a space that is safe and has professional-grade sound quality. Thank you to everyone involved. 🎵

✨ A huge thank you to Thomas Shorthouse and Molly Frances Arnuk for putting together Sample Library at Avalon Cafe in London, and donating the proceeds to Yorkshire Youth & Music

Last month, the two composers chose to direct proceeds from their London concert, Sample Library, to YY&M's work with young people across the region, raising £163 to help young people access the Safe Space Studio.

Thank you to Thomas, Molly, the performers and everyone who came along on the night. The money raised will go directly towards giving young people in Yorkshire access to music-making.

🎻 A massive thank you to Fenton Philharmonic
for their donation of £80 from the raffle as part of Fenton Fan Favourites.

Last month, this brilliant orchestra from Church Fenton chose Yorkshire Youth & Music as their charity partner for Fenton Fan Favourites, an evening of film scores, TV themes, and more at Ulleskelf Village Hall.

The donation will help support access to music for the young people who need it most: either through our Safe Space Studio or through our other programmes. Thank you, Fenton Philharmonic, as ever, it’s greatly appreciated!

🎉 We're delighted to announce that our application to The People's Fund was successful! Thank you to everyone who voted to ensure that we could continue providing access to the Safe Space Studio.

It means that we can keep it open to the young people who need it most: those facing mental health challenges, the risk of exploitation, or barriers that traditional education can't always reach.

A huge thank you to West Yorkshire Combined Authority for this funding, which is part of Mayor Tracy Brabin's region-wide effort to tackle serious violence through community-led projects across West Yorkshire.
