This evening we played a fantastic concert at St. Mark's Church, Woodcote, Purley, where we received such a welcoming reception despite it being very warm for the Band!

Our final piece of the concert was music from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and here’s a little clip from one of its most familiar moments. 🌹✨

A huge thank you to everyone at St Mark’s for making us feel so welcome and to our two guest musicians from the Honourable Artillery Company Regimental Band for joining us this evening, it was a pleasure to have you playing with us.

A lovely way to bring two busy, enjoyable weeks of music-making to a close. 🎶

If you're heading to the University of Huddersfield, another university or college across Yorkshire, or studying within travelling distance of the Band, starting university doesn't have to mean leaving your music behind. 🎶

Whether you're studying music or something completely different, if you've enjoyed playing through school or college, why stop now?

The Band of The Royal Yorkshire Regiment offers the opportunity to continue making music alongside your studies as a paid, part-time musician in the Army Reserve.

🎺 New university. New course. Same instrument.

On Saturday we provided musical accompaniment to a special service at Sheffield Cathedral, marking the Laying up of Colours of the 3rd (Militia) Battalion and the Hallamshire Battalion of The York and Lancaster Regiment. It was a privilege to play as the colours were presented and placed on the altar, a poignant moment in their history.

❔Did you know... the term 'colours' is given to the flags representing the different regiments of the British Army, past and present. When old flags are decommissioned, they are laid to rest, often in a church or cathedral significant to the particular regiment and allowed to decay quietly and gracefully.

This week, Musn Browne represented the Band at Poelcapelle British Cemetery in Belgium where he performed the Last Post during the burial service for three unknown soldiers of the First World War.

The soldiers are believed to have lost their lives during either the Third Battle of Ypres in 1917 or the Lys Offensive in 1918. More than a century later, they were laid to rest with full military honours and the dignity and respect their sacrifice deserved.

It was a privilege for Musn Browne to support the service and honour the three soldiers through the performance of the Last Post.

Though their names remain unknown, their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

We will remember them.

We rounded off our visit to Bulgaria with a joint public concert alongside the National Guard Unit Band in front of the iconic National Palace of Culture in Sofia.

The performance was attended by His Majesty's Ambassador to Bulgaria and brought together audiences from across the city to celebrate the friendship and strong partnership between the United Kingdom and Bulgaria through music.

The programme featured a blend of traditional Bulgarian music alongside British military band favourites. Performing with our Bulgarian counterparts was a privilege and a fitting finale to a memorable week supporting the British Embassy Sofia.

🇬🇧🇧🇬 Music in the Heart of Sofia🎶

As part of our visit to Bulgaria supporting the British Embassy Sofia for His Majesty The King's Official Birthday, the band also performed an informal evening concert in the city.

Set against the backdrop of the city's Business Park, the performance was enjoyed by hotel guests, local residents and visitors, providing another opportunity to share British military music while engaging with the local community.

From traditional marches to contemporary favourites, it was a pleasure to perform for such an appreciative audience and represent the British Army overseas.

Our Permanent Staff Instructor, Colour Sergeant Keith Marsden, recently attended the Morley March & Hymn Tune Contest to adjudicate the Road March and Deportment section.

Drawing on his experience as Drum Major, he was pleased to support one of Yorkshire's most established brass band contests and see so many excellent performances throughout the day.

Congratulations to Hepworth Band, Yorkshire Imperial and Tewit Silver Band on their successes.
