Unpaid carers make an incredible difference to the lives of the people they support and to our communities every day.

At Mencap in Kirklees, we work alongside carers, support carers, and rely on the dedication of carers to help people with learning disabilities live full and meaningful lives.

This Carers Week, we're joining the call to create communities that better understand, recognise, and support unpaid carers.

Whether it's in schools, universities, workplaces, health and social care services, businesses, or community groups, even small changes can make a big difference to a carer's daily life and future opportunities.

It was lovely to see those volunteers attending our celebration lunch at the Greenhouse Cafe this week in celebration of Volunteers Week 2026.

As we near the end of Mental Health Awareness Month, just a reminder...

It's always important to look after your own and to look out for signs that those around you might be struggling.

Take a look at some of the activities and day centre care we offer at Mencap In Kirklees. Some of these services can give carers a regular needed break, and for people with learning disabilities, they can help provide a fulfilling, social and active life.

Our More2do groups have had lots of fun recently.

🎳 We went bowling in Dewsbury.
🏛️ We visited the White Rose Centre and the Thackray Museum in Leeds.
🎊 We celebrated Ramadan and St Patrick’s Day.
🎨 We also did lots of crafts.

At Mencap In Kirklees, we support adults with learning disabilities across Kirklees. We are currently recruiting for Bank Staff to join our team. As a member of our bank staff, you could work in any of our services across Kirklees, but please do tell us if you have a preferred work location.

We pride ourselves on helping the people we support to be as independent as they can, to reach their full potential, and help them to live a safe and enjoyable life.
