since 1803, our RNLI crew operate the all-weather Shannon class lifeboat 'Edmund Hawthorn Micklewood' and the Inshore Rescue Hovercraft 'Hurley Spirit'. Founded in 1803, Hoylake Lifeboat Station is one of the oldest RNLI stations in the UK. The community in Hoylake have provided volunteer crews for over 200 years, a tradition that continues today with generations of local people

prepared to risk their lives to save others at sea. The all-weather Shannon class lifeboat 13-06 RNLB 'Edmund Hawthorn Micklewood' has been on service at Hoylake since 2014. The lifeboat covers the approaches to Liverpool, the Dee Estuary and the Irish Sea and launches at all states of weather and tide to people and vessels in distress. The Inshore Rescue Hovercraft H-005 'Hurley Spirit' has also been stationed at Hoylake since 2016 and can reach areas inaccessible to conventional lifeboats, including the mud flats of the Dee Estuary, the Wirral coast and the River Mersey.

A huge congratulations to local lifesaver Jono Dodd at RNLI West Kirby Lifeboat on being awarded an MBE in the Birthday Honours 2026. This well-deserved recognition reflects almost four decades of voluntary service with the RNLI, including at Hoylake RNLI between 1991 and 2000 on our all-weather lifeboat and shore crews.

Thank you Jono for your incredible commitment to saving lives at sea! 🎖️👏

It was a privilege to welcome Peter Oliver OBE, HM Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside to Hoylake Lifeboat Station alongside RNLI West Kirby Lifeboat. Our RNLI crew and station officials showed Mr. Oliver around the lifeboats and boathouse and displayed some of the important equipment that we rely on to save lives at sea.

The Lord-Lieutenant is His Majesty The King’s representative in the county. The King became Patron of the RNLI in 2024 and we are grateful to Mr. Oliver and the Lieutenancy team for their support for our lifesaving charity.

It's officially the start of UK Volunteers' Week and at Hoylake RNLI, we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who gives their time and energy to help us save lives at sea as part of our

Thank you to the brave men and women who are always ready to launch to the rescue 24/7 on our all-weather Shannon class lifeboat, Inshore Rescue Hovercraft, and on our tractor and shore crews.

We’re grateful to our Lifeboat Operations Manager, Launch Authorities, boathouse team and committee members who manage our rescue operations and help keep the lifeboat station running, and to our Lifeboat Press Officer for showcasing our lifesaving work to the public and the media.

As the charity that saves lives at sea, we’re hugely grateful to all the amazing fundraisers and shop volunteers whose efforts all year round ensure we have the vital funds we need to keep people safe along our coast.

Educating the public about water safety is essential for saving lives, so thank you to our Lifeboat Visits Officer, Visits and Water Safety teams for welcoming visitors to our station, going out to speak to schools, clubs and groups, and supporting the RNLI’s drowning prevention work.

And finally, none of our volunteers could save lives without the support of our families and loved ones. Whether it’s for their understanding when the pagers go off in the middle of the night or volunteering their own time and efforts at fundraising and social events, thank you for everything you do.

🔊 Volume up for this one... 🎶

Last night’s concert by the Kenfig Hill & District Male Voice Choir at St Hildeburgh's Parish Church Hoylake was a truly special event. Featuring a range of mixed choir music with piano accompaniment, the acclaimed choir from South Wales brought the house down with their stirring performance of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.

We're delighted to share that through generous donations, this memorable fundraising event saw an astonishing £2,284.32 raised for the RNLI! 💙

A huge thank you to all the choir members, Musical Director Rhian Thomas, Principal Accompanist Rachel Starritt, and Chairman Paul Butterworth for an unforgettable evening of music and entertainment.

Thanks also to Carol and the team at Hoylake Post Office for their fantastic support selling tickets and spreading the word, and to everyone who came along and supported the event. Your kindness will help our volunteer crews save lives at sea.

Finally, a special thank you to our incredible Hoylake and West Kirby Lifeboat fundraising volunteers for your hard work to put on the event and to our boathouse and visits team for hosting the choir at Hoylake Lifeboat Station. It was a real effort.

We hope you enjoy this iconic moment from the Kenfig Hill Male Voice Choir.

📟 SHOUT: Hoylake RNLI hovercraft was requested to launch by HM Coastguard at 8:35pm yesterday when concerns were raised for seven people seen walking out to Hilbre Island and not returning.

With the tide flooding, the RNLI hovercraft ‘Hurley Spirit’ and its volunteer crew launched and headed towards the islands in the Dee Estuary.

RNLI West Kirby Lifeboat and the Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team had also been tasked and a multi-agency search was carried out on and around the islands.

After extensive searches, including enquiries with people in the area, nobody in difficulty was located. Coastguard officers and RNLI crew spoke with several members of the public to ensure they were aware of the incoming tide.

Satisfied that there was nobody required further assistance, the search and rescue units were stood down and Hoylake RNLI hovercraft returned to station.

Paul Sherratt, Hoylake RNLI volunteer hovercraft commander, said:

‘A range of search and rescue incidents were taking place all along the region’s coast on Friday evening, with all three of the Wirral’s RNLI lifeboats - including RNLI New Brighton Lifeboat - tasked to help people in difficulty alongside the Coastguard and our other emergency service colleagues.’

‘The first informant did the right thing by raising the alarm when they became worried about the group of walkers. If you’re heading to the coast this weekend, please stay safe and . Visit a lifeguarded beach, always check the tide times, weather, and safety signage. And if you or someone else gets into difficulty, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.’

Sliding into the weekend in style.

As the recent heatwave gives way to cooler temperatures with sunny spells, if you’re still heading to the coast follow our top tips for staying safe:

🏖 Visit a lifeguarded beach and swim between the red and yellow flags. Find your nearest at rnli.org/find-my-nearest/lifeguarded-beaches

🌊 Always check tide times, weather forecasts and local safety signage. Use tide timetables on websites such as bbc.co.uk/weather/coast-and-sea/tide-tables

👀 Stay aware of your surroundings and know your route to safety, planning enough time to return ashore

🐶 Keep dogs on a lead near cliff edges, mud and fast-flowing water

📱 Carry a means of calling for help and use a waterproof pouch if going afloat

🏄‍♂️ For activities like paddleboarding or kayaking, always wear a wetsuit and buoyancy aid or lifejacket. Avoid going out in offshore winds

🛟 If you get into trouble in the water - stay calm, extend your arms and legs and float until you can control your breathing, then shout for help or swim to safety

🆘 In an emergency dial 999 for the Coastguard
