You've probably seen our brilliant Grounds Team out and about this week already, across town prepping for Houghton Regis in Bloom with the floral displays πŸͺ»βš˜οΈπŸŒ·and the tidy up of CBC land at Sandringham Drive, but as Liz says, the Town Clerk of the Town and Parish Councils are often overlooked. So during Local Town Clerks Week, let me take this opportunity to thank our unsung heroes of Houghton Regis Town Council - the Clerk, and the Managers and Officers who keep our town council running smoothly and ensure everyone is heard, and...

*who organise the town events πŸŽΆπŸŽ„πŸŽ‰πŸŽ†πŸ•πŸΆπŸ₯‡πŸ†
* who look after our parks and open spaces βš½οΈπŸπŸ›πŸŽͺ🌳🌿🌷🌸
* who run our youth and community projects πŸ€Έβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ‘΅πŸΌπŸ‘΄πŸΌπŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘¦πŸ‘πŸ§‘β€πŸ€β€πŸ§‘πŸ—£
..and who many of you will never see (and if you walked past them in Bedford Square, would never recognise!).

Thank you everyone 🌻⚘️πŸͺ»πŸŒ·πŸŒ·πŸŒΉπŸ«Ά

Town councils are often the voice of the community and are led by Clerks who give their all to bring their communities together.

Whether a small Parish Council, a small town or large town, Clerks cover a whole host of roles within their jurisdiction.

So this week in Local Council Clerk Week, I want to say thank you to the Clerks that I know for all that they do for their communities

Paul at Dunstable Town Council
Claire at Houghton Regis Town Council
Emma at Stotfold Town Council
Mark at Leighton-Linslade Town Council Official
Stacie at The Rufus Centre Flitwick/ Flitwick Town Council
Linda at Caddington Parish Council

Thank you for all that you do for your communities.

🌞 I don't need to tell ya'll, it's gonna be a scorcher this weekend!

With temperatures🌑fixed to possibly tip 33Β°C πŸ₯΅ on Monday, a few reminders to stay safe, as we want you to have fun in the sun, go and explore around town, or get the bbbq out πŸ—πŸ₯©πŸŒ and invite the neighbours round, not end up in bed with heat stroke πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

It's all the obvious stuff really πŸ™„ ⬇️

* Stay hydrated πŸ’§
* Protect your head πŸ‘’πŸŽ©πŸ§’
* Slap on the sunscreen 🧴
* Avoid alcohol 🍻πŸ₯‚πŸ· (tough one if you're heading out to one of the many pub gardens we are lucky to have!)

One more thing, and it's not always obvious to us, but look out for your vulnerable πŸ‘¨β€πŸ¦―πŸ‘©β€πŸ¦ΌπŸ‘΅πŸΌ neighbours who might not be able to cope as well as the rest of us, they might need a little extra help 🫢

Here's to a glorious Bank Holiday!

On Wednesday evening, Houghton Regis Town Council re-selected Cllr David Jones as Mayor for the next municipal year.

David had previously held this role in 2011/2012, and although he is not the first councillor to serve a second term as our town Mayor (Former Labour Councillors John and Jessie Kinchella, and Roger Turner have previously held this record), this is a precedent for the Liberal Democrats.

David will continue to support two of the same charities that benefitted from outgoing Mayor, Cllr Michelle Herber's year of fundraising; Keech Hospice and Hospice at Home Volunteers, and also the motor neurone disease charity MNDA.

Congratulations David. We wish him success in the coming year.

Following the Annual Meeting of the Town Council, Houghton Regis Town is pleased to announce that Councillor David Jones has been elected to the position of Town Mayor, with Councillor Elaine Cooper elected as Deputy Mayor. The Council congratulates Councillor Jones and Councillor Cooper on their appointments and wishes them both a successful year in office.

The Mayor has chosen to support Hospice at Home Volunteers, Keech Hospice and the Motor Neurone Disease Association as his nominated charities for the Mayoral year.

The Council would like to note its thanks and appreciation to Councillor Michelle Herber for her service to the Council and exceptional fundraising effort during her term of office as Mayor.

Details of Civic and fundraising events for the coming Mayoral year will be circulated in due course.

Please send all Mayoral correspondence and invitation requests to [email protected]

πŸ’πŸŒ·πŸͺ»Oh wow, oh wow, oh wow, oh wow! This is coming along nicely! It's going to make such a difference to this town gateway. Now for something on the other side πŸ€” Do you think I'd be pushing my luck if I suggested reinstating the Chequers pond? πŸ™ŒπŸ˜²πŸ˜‰πŸ¦†πŸ¦†πŸ¦†

I've had an email from the Environment Agency looking for local views πŸ—£ on 🌊 flooding, and they would like to invite people in communities πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘§ to take part in a short survey πŸ“„

The survey is aimed at people who don't usually engage in these kinds of things, and the research will help them understand what information β“οΈπŸ€” people find most useful when checking their possible future 🌊 flood risk or thinking about how to prepare for flooding.

β–ͺ︎ The survey is simple and should only take a few minutes ⏳️ to complete.

β–ͺ︎ You will first be asked a small number of questions about your experience and β“οΈπŸ€”πŸ—£ views.

β–ͺ︎ You will then be invited to choose up to five items from a list of information and actions that would matter most to you in this situation.

β–ͺ︎ There are no right βœ…οΈ or wrong ❎️ answers.

β–ͺ︎ They are interested in your 🫡 honest views and first impressions.

β–ͺ︎ Your responses will help them to understand 🧐 which information and actions are most important πŸ‘ to communities πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘§πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§ and what they should prioritise in future design and research πŸ“πŸ› .

If you would like to take part, please complete the survey by Friday 29 May.
