Hi All,

You might be interested in this road closure info from the Planned Carriageway & Footway Maintenance Team.....

Please be advised that the roads in the locations detailed below are due to be closed on the dates and times specified for carriageway surface dressing or stud replacement.

An alternative route for traffic will be signed on site.

Please note that these works are weather dependant, we will endeavour to inform you should there be significant changes to the programme.

This road closure is covered by the 14.1 order made on 11th January 2026.

You can find more details on surface dressing treatments and the stages involved on our website: Road surface dressing - https://www.westsussex.gov.uk/roads-and-travel/maintaining-roads-verges-and-pavements/road-and-footway-surface-treatments/road-surface-dressing/

**Micro asphalt surfacing and lining**
Charlton St/Mill Lane/Sir Georges Place.
What I have learnt from the WSCC Project Delivery Manager -Highways:

The way the micro surfacing is carried out on the surfacing day is that all the ironwork is covered up, surfaced over and then the pieces that have a shallow cover of new material are uncovered in the same shift. The bits that are too deep, and would cause damaged to vehicles driving over them, have a hole punched in the material and are then dug up and raised. Unfortunately the piece in your image [in my previous post] seems to have been missed during the uncovering phase on the day and it appears that someone has possibly tried to do it themselves.

A member of the Highways team went to site to try to uncover it completely on Friday but someone had their tyre on it but I’ll (Project Delivery Manager) hopefully be able to get to Steyning today (15June) to do it myself.
Other than this piece of ironwork, and the late lining and ironwork adjustment, I would say that this site has been surfaced correctly. Although that is a lot of things that have not gone to plan which is unfortunately a programme-wide problem this year.
On a positive note some of the lining was completed on Friday, please see attached photographs.

OK, who wants another update about Charlton St/Mill Road/Sir George's Place?

Lining had been booked but it rained. Some was done on 12th when it was drier.

The ironwork adjustment isn’t until the 22nd. However, Steyning is first on the programme.
The permits that were in place for next week are being adjusted (Permit Modification Request) by Senior Network Coordination for the new dates for the ironwork.

I have arranged an on-site meeting with WSCC Project Delivery Manager after the ironworks have been adjusted so we can see the completed project.

Date: 23 June
Time: 13:30
Meeting point: High Street Car Park (at the back near Charlton St)

I will be there - would any residents like to attend?
Please add your name to the comments or dm me.
I am also inviting Steyning Town Council.

I am still discussing the quality of the works and have escalated to Assistant Area Highways Manager WSCC with evidence of asphalt covered drains!

#37 Kings Barn Lane - Glebe Fields

I have been notified today that Vistry will be submitting a non-material amendment (NMA) application to allow demolition of the house now (rather than in phase 3).

It is to allow water supply into the site, and will not allow any vehicle access.

The NMA will be submitted this week.

**Mill Road/Charlton Street/Sir George’s Place Resurfacing EVEN MORE Updates Following Inspection on 04 June**

As per my previous post the WSCC Project Delivery Manager – Carriageways & Footways visited on 04 June.

The manager reported:
The microasphalt material has started to bed in throughout the wheeltracks on all the roads which is good. As you can just about see in the photo attached the material has started to turn grey in these sections of the road.

He also painted rectangles around the low ironwork to make it stand out to cyclist and drivers which should help with making them more obvious. (see photo).

The kerbs (Charlton St) are the worst in terms of splashed binder, (see photo), he tried to remove it but didn’t get anywhere (didn’t have the correct tools at the time). It will wear off in time but he will see if the contractor can get it taken up. I have today written again to ask that this is addressed. I have also asked if temporary "no parking" signs can be added to corners and an additional sweep can be conducted.

GLEBE FIELDS
I am asking for action!

😡 From reports of early starts before 8am to the dust issues, from waiting for signed off minutes to needing to understand the KBL boundary treatment and mitigations for the loss of trees on the Abbey Rd side…. I appreciate we are waiting for several clarifications from Vistry.

I haven’t forgotten.

Vistry are going through some structural changes (John Longhorn from Planning has left Vistry) - making things a bit slower from them at the moment.

📆 I will be in touch when I know when the monthly meetings will commence - it would be great if some of you could be available.

🕗 📹 🙏 Please take evidence of any works commencing before 8am. Videos/photos etc of work starting before 8am (not just moving vehicles into positions).

🌳🏡 I hope to be able to share the minutes from our site meeting soon - awaiting Vistry sign off - I appreciate this really important for the fence/planting boundary treatment along the southern boundary with KBL.
