🌺 Horsforth Poppy Appeal launch 2026 🌺

It was a real privilege for Horsforth Town Council Chair, Cllr Simon Dowling, to receive the first poppy of this year’s appeal in Horsforth as we officially launched the 2026 Poppy Appeal.

Speaking at the launch, Simon said: “It’s a real honour to receive the first poppy of this year’s appeal in Horsforth. Remembrance is an important opportunity for us to come together as a community, reflect on the sacrifices made by our Armed Forces, and show our continued support for veterans and their families.

“Last year, Horsforth raised an incredible £27,800, and I hope that, with the generosity and support of our fantastic community, we can make this another successful year for the Poppy Appeal.”

A huge thank you to everyone who gives their time to collect, organises fundraising activities or makes a donation. Every contribution makes a difference and helps ensure that those who have served, and those who continue to serve, are never forgotten. ❤️

There is still time to complete the community groups neighbourhood plan survey. It is open until 21 October.

Horsforth Town Council is currently in the process of reviewing the Neighbourhood Plan as it is due for renewal in 2028. We have consulted the public to understand whether the public felt the Neighbourhood Plan is meeting the objectives set out in 2019. The survey also sought to understand the priorities of the public for future development in Horsforth.

We are now reaching out to local community groups within Horsforth to gain feedback on how they feel the Neighbourhood Plan can work for them.

🚧 Traffic Management Alert – A65 Leeds Road / Layton Lane, Rawdon 🚧

Yorkshire Water will be carrying out essential carriageway repair works on Wednesday 7 October following a recent water main burst at the junction of A65 Leeds Road and Layton Lane, Rawdon.

The existing Layton Lane road closure will remain in place while repairs are undertaken. To allow the works to be completed safely, stop/go traffic management will be in operation on A65 Leeds Road between 9:00am and 3:30pm, with traffic controls removed outside these hours to minimise disruption.

Subject to the works progressing as planned, repairs are expected to be completed and the site cleared by Thursday 8 October.

Please allow extra time for your journey and consider alternative routes if possible. 🚗⏳

Councillor Gill Garvani was honoured to attend the Pool in Wharfedale Civic Service on Sunday, representing Horsforth Town Council.

The service was a wonderful community occasion, bringing together local civic leaders and residents to celebrate community spirit and recognise the recipients of the Pool in Wharfedale Honorary Citizen Awards.

Pictured are Cllr Garvani alongside the Mayor of Otley, Cllr Mick Bradley (second from left), Chair of Pool Parish Council, Cllr Hazel Lee (far right), and the Honorary Citizen Award recipients.

Cllr Garvani said: "It is a great honour to be invited to such a lovely service and to represent Horsforth."

🌟 Supporting young people and their voices in our community 🌟

Following last week’s Full Council meeting, where we heard about Arthur from Broadgate Primary School, his fantastic manifesto and his selection as one of the final 11 candidates in the Leeds Children’s Mayor election, I was delighted this morning to visit Arthur at school.

As Chair of Horsforth Town Council, I was able to hand Arthur a letter from the Town Council wishing him the very best of luck and letting him know how proud we are of what he has achieved. It was also a great opportunity to hear from Arthur himself about his manifesto, his ideas and how his campaigning has gone.

As Chair of Council, I said:
“I commend Arthur for getting selected as one of the final 11 and for being so passionate about his manifesto. It is so important that we, as a local Town Council, support our schools in encouraging young people to engage in politics whether that is through the Children’s Mayor, school councils, sports councils, or simply standing up for what they believe in. That is how I first got involved in politics at the age of 13, and I hope Arthur will be one of many young people who get involved both now and in the future.
It is important that we, as local politicians, listen to young people as well as those who vote for us. Their voices matter, and it is important that we hear what they have to say and understand the issues they are passionate about.”

I was also really pleased to talk to Arthur about how much the Town Council wants to continue making sure our events are inclusive and accessible to everyone in our community, including when we are considering the costs involved in attending them.

A huge well done to Arthur from all of us at Horsforth Town Council. Whatever happens in the election, reaching the final 11 is a fantastic achievement and something to be incredibly proud of. 👏
